COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Karl Friedrich, or just Karl to his friends, is a simple pale lager with historical taste, boasting the delicious flavour of hops and the brew master’s pure spirit. It was brewed in honour of Karl Friedrich Rehbinder, the founder of Estonian beer culture and of Saku Brewery. Karl is a real beer, exactly as genuine Estonian beer used to be for centuries before modern times. There is no innovative crystal filtration or luxurious aroma bouquet, no posh hop cultivars or trendy freshness. This beer only includes barley malt, water, hops, yeast and the experience gathered by Saku brew masters over centuries. Traditional raw materials and brewing technologies create a beer that combines the bitterness of hops and the sweet hint of barley malt. A genuine and pure taste to be enjoyed by those who appreciate the charm of simplicity.

568 ml can. 250313/082. BB 210913. From Estonia. Thank you Thomas!
Clear pale golden colour with a small to average sized foamy white head. Mild malty and soapy aroma. And the flavour is also very mild. Some mild fruitiness, mild grassy hops, malt and some freshness. I’m surprised that this is not boring. Rather balanced. And even rather tasty for a tasteless pale lager.

0.5 l bottle from Kaubamaja, Talliin. Very minimal head, looks like a lager, colour is more orange than yellow. Well, it smelled and tasted a bit like pear cider. That’s odd, anyway, nothing special. There is some sweetness, but not too much.

50cl can from Tallinn. Pours clear pale golden with a white head. Lightly malty with some fruity elements and hints of hops and cooked vegetables. Sweet and grainy with a very light bitterness in the finish. Thin and slightly watery, but somewhat refreshing and pretty much an ordinary fairly decent industrial pale lager.

0.5 l bottle, thanks hanniku! Golden color with quickly dissipating head. Malty aroma with honey and pale bread and hint of herbal grassiness. Sweet honeyish malty flavor. Light to medium body. Very malt-forward and Helles like.

Decent but pretty much bog-standard PL, despite its description; tastes of corn, a bit of sweetness, and a bit of EE-style "chemical" hops. Drinkable but utterly not worth seeking out (Prisma, Kristiine Keskus, Tallinn)

500 ml can. Thanks Tuulia.
Pours a golden colour with large bubbles and a small white head. Aroma of stuffy but sweet malts, wet paper and honey-like notes. Flavour of sweet malts, wet paper, honey, low bitterness and some chewy citricness. Light bodied, low carbonation and a slightly sweet malty finish. Has some soda-like elements and overall not impressive at all.

50 cl can @ home, BBE 04.01.2013. Thanks Tuulia!
Aroma is somewhat sweet and stale with grainy malt, some corn, honey and hints of metal. Flavour is slightly sweet with grainy malt and hints of metal in the finish. Palate is rather low on CO2. Typical easy-going bulk lager.
