Saku Kuld – a modern classic, the absolute elite of Estonian beers, a combination of Saku’s hundreds-of-years-old brewing traditions, and the newest technology. With a rich taste, foam, and aroma, a delicate balance of freshness and mildness characterizes the taste of Saku Kuld. The freshness comes from Nordic oat malt and velvety smoothness is added to the refined bouquet by Hallertau hops. In addition, Saku Kuld is characterized by a clear colour and thick firm foam. Saku Kuld is sold in unique bottles with a relief of the Saku arms.

Bottle. Pale straw coloured beer with a white froth. Hay/Grass nose with slight oaty malts. Mouth is very light and fresh with grassy hops and a hint of tomato. Finish is light and oaty with a little lemony hint.

From the bottle, chilled. It pours well with very fine eddying streams of bubbles raising a thick, rocky white pad that lifts up a good half inch from the lip. The head held high it influences the taste and smooth mouthfeel. Toasted barley, toasted wheat, straw and hay bales give an all too pleasing aroma of a farm harvest in the Summer heat. Creamy, foamy, biscuity and sweet on first sip. Very light bodied, but solid in mouthfeel. Raspy, spicy, herbal hops at back, a bitter finish to it with lasting Hallertauer hop notes in the finish. Sweetness oddly mellows out as it warms to show some grainy, husky malt notes and more of the hops. This is easily a quaffable lager, simple and purposeful. Not bad! Bottle courtesy of the Indian. Pale coloured lager, thin body, faintly hoppy and slightly grainy aroma, overall pretty forgettable basic lager.

500 ml can, a gift. ABV is 5.2%. Very pale golden colour, large white head. Moderate sweetish aroma, some floral and grassy notes. Thin and watery mouthfeel. The flavour is quite bland, the hops are too modest, but there are no offensive side flavours.

Bottle 50cl. A clear yellow colour with an average high white head. An aroma of malt and bread. The taste of medium sweet and light bitter. A medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation and a short finish.

En ganska söt och förvånansvärt besk lager med viss hösmak.Jag blev faktiskt positivt överaskad eftersom förväntningarna var så låga.

Pale golden. A bit of light grassiness, but a pretty simple pale lager. Does the job.

50 cl Bottle, August 2011
Pale yellow, small reluctant head. Small aromas of mainly malt and yeast but also some distant hops and a cereal note. The taste is not that bad actually, for a pale macro lager it’s surprisingly good! The yeast adds another dimension and a light astringent touch. Malt and hops shines through and even though the body is light there’s still some taste to it. Exceeded my expectations!
