Saku Kuld Ė a modern classic, the absolute elite of Estonian beers, a combination of Sakuís hundreds-of-years-old brewing traditions, and the newest technology. With a rich taste, foam, and aroma, a delicate balance of freshness and mildness characterizes the taste of Saku Kuld. The freshness comes from Nordic oat malt and velvety smoothness is added to the refined bouquet by Hallertau hops. In addition, Saku Kuld is characterized by a clear colour and thick firm foam. Saku Kuld is sold in unique bottles with a relief of the Saku arms.

Bottle. Itís a clear, pale golden beer topped by a minimal sized white head. Grainy pale malts with hints of wet cardboard. Fruity and lightly grassy. Itís quite thin on the palate, with soft carbonation. Grass, fruityness, pale malts and a faint bitterness in the flavor. Hints of wet cardboard. Not much of interest going on here, but itís sort of drinkable. 121102

Bad sweet-metallic odour with hints of old yeast. Tastes better, though. Caramel and malt, maybe a bit to sweet, but plain. Head quickly disappearing, but a nice golden colour.

Rating #767, bottle from Brian. A pale, light beer with a diminishing head. Aroma of yeast, wet grains and old malts. Sour bready taste with a certain malt sweetness, subdued hops and a bit metal. Palate is not as watery as expected and a bit creamy. Nice, mild carbon dioxide.

Metallic aroma, good head and clear appearance only quality factors, itís all downhill from there for this "elite" beer thatís little more than a hoppier, crispier version of the other near-indistinguishable PLs and Pilsners Iíve had from Saku. Other than the Porter, which is worth returning to, and the Tume, which is at least distinctive, the Kuld and its brewerymates can be ignored safely
