COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bière de blé classique Le Mans, or in short - Saku Le Mans, is a light wheat beer with a hint of fruit. It is brewed according to the traditions of French brewmasters and its mild flavour is spiced with banana and citrus aromas. As with other classic wheat beers, Saku LeMans is also unfiltered. This type of aromatic wheat beer is quite common in France, where the local brewmasters have followed the fine art of fellow brewers in Germany and Belgium and interpreted that art elegantly to their liking. Compared to the classic wheat beers, Le Mans is easier on the palate, milder flavoured, more aromatic and has obvious notes of citrus in its taste. Saku Le Mans is ideal before a main dish or as a light aperitif accompanied by a selection of cheeses or fruits. The aromatic wheat beer is a great alternative to discover, but it’s probably most suited to those beer enthusiasts for whom a hop lager might be too bitter and hard to drink.

500 ml bottle. T130313. BB 07/12/13. From Estonia. Thanks Thomas!
Hazy yellow colour with an average sized white head that disappears very quickly. The aroma is citrus, wheat, mild yeast and something plastic. The flavour is wheat, malt, mild bitterness, sugary sweetness and citrus. It’s a bit plasticky, thin and too citrusy but it’s not necessarily bad. I was expecting something much worse.

0,5L bottle. Nice fat creamy head what dissapears fast. Taste is sour and sweet. Many citrus fruits coming out. Lemon, orange, grapefruit. Like citrus juice coctail.

Ok for Saku, but for the style, not quite enough. Coriander indeed, ester indeed, some wheat, sure, but the aroma is sharp and off, and the hop level is too high (hints of US-ness), combined with the wrong malt--more caramel, less balanced. Disappointing--stick with the Stuttgart.

500ml bottle. Cloudy orange color. Wonderful thick white head. Slowly disappears into tiny, but does not fade completely. Very fruity, sweet, oranges, spices in aroma. Sweet, juicy, oranges, tropical fruits in flavor. Mild bitter juicy aftertaste. I’m surprised.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2013 50cl bottle. I got the feeling that you drink some citrus-fruit lemonade, diluted with wheat beer (Saku Stuttgart) and heavily spiced with coriander. It looks really good - beautiful hazy pour, rather whitish, with a beautiful, thick, white head. Heavily sweet, tastes like a grapefruit and bitter lemon mix with a lot of shugar. Medium body, creamy texture, good carbonation... Everything is good when it comes to looks and palate. But the taste - there is nothing even close to French beers or Belgian White. If you start your meal with it, you will possibly won’t like it - this is surely a digestif, and to be enjoyed with some kind of cake. To my taste - cheeses is not to be paired with that beer. And coriander - I love coriander, but not in my beer. Sorry, but I could not finish that bottle. When I compare it to Dogfish Head Namaste, or Little Valley Hebden’s Wheat (that one you can get in Estonia), I think that Saku done a good job on the body, but forgot about the taste. Second thought, is that it possibly needs to be matured in a bottle for half a year, and It will possibly get better.

Hazy yellow color with big white creamy head. Aroma is wheat, yeast, some orange and spices. Taste is similar, quite sweet with gentle dryness and yeasty a bit unpleasant finish. Medium body and carbonation. OK, but too sweet to be enjoyable.

500ml bottle (Supermarkets, Tallinn)
Cloudy yellow, huge rocky white head. Loads of clove and other spices in the aroma, some coriander, some wheetiness. Nice orange and sugar-puff retronasals. There’s also some orange zest in the aroma too, once you’ve tasted them. Alas it’s too sweet, a little bit sticky because of that. Sweet wheaty grains everywhere. Finish has some bitter bite that might be clove again. Attenuated more, this would be a very nice wit. But it’s not, so it isn’t. Better than an incipid one, though.

Hazy pale yellow, white head with some retention. Nose is wheat, spicy notes, banana and citrus. Taste has a fair amount of citrus, banana, spice and wheat with an oily, almost cloyingly sweet finish. Medium body, discreet carbonation. Decent, but the finish is somewhat off - the beer it self is fairly crisp, then the finish comes in and stomps out the crispness.

Bottle. Cloudy straw yellow body with a tall head. Aroma has wheat and lots of sweet lemon. Fresh fruity and wheaty taste, also with mostly lemony overtones. Sweet finish. Alright for the style but... the last sentence of the commercial description makes it clear - it’s another beer from Saku for people who don’t like hops. How about something for hop lovers now? Maybe an IPA for the next release in the series?
