2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 blankboy (5191) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 13, 2006
Bottle shared with and courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear pale gold with a good size diminishing white head. Semi-sweet aroma of grain and corn. Flavour of grain and a hint of hops. Very watery with a somewhat vegetal aftertaste. Thin bodied. There’s nothing bad aboout this beer per se and there’s definitely worse Euro Lagers out there but still, how many of these do we need?
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 gnoff (6374) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - APR 13, 2006
Got a can from a friend that brought it back from Estonia, was in June 2005. Very light in color, scent and flavor. Not bad, but boring. Good to try, then no need to do it again.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Gorbalev (2827) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 13, 2006
Bottle shared with blankboy. Medium yellow, hardly any head. Corn, grain, slightly sweet aroma. Syrupy mouthfeel. A little bit of body and flavour - more than most of its cousins on the LCBO shelves. Same qualities as aroma, with just a hint of hops. Not great, but not offensive.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 CapFlu (4023) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 6, 2006
(500ml bottle) So - Ottawa is playing Montreal in hockey tonight so I thought since les Canadiens want to make it 8 straight wins that I’d be able to jinx them by consuming Saku. Pours a foamy, white large head with a deep golden body. Nose of deep corn with mild grains. Flavour is pleasant, even good... but I agree with Greg below that ENOUGH with the lagers already, shouldn’t the LCBO concentrate on stouts now?
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Fin (6185) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 5, 2006
Bottled and on draught, Kurressare, Estonia 15-05-05. As Pale lagers go this is not bad at all. Light golden colour, medium frothy head, little bit thin on the flavour front, not too bad.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 GregClow (2740) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 22, 2006
Bottle from the LCBO. Once again, our benevolent alcohol overlords in Ontario present us with another Eastern European lager. Will it be any different from the others, I wonder? Pale gold colour, aroma is slightly grainy but with some nice herbal notes, body is thin, flavour is simple but not unpleasant. Yeah, pretty much what I expected...
0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20 skiman5 (1) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2006 does not count
Terrible---sweet syrupy swill. No head retention. Went flat real quick. Dumped it!
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cornfield (5276) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - FEB 7, 2006
Why this is listed as a pale lager is beyond me. It’s a decent Bohemian Pilsener, golden with a modest bubbly head. The aroma is a bit light, grainy with some bready malt and earthy & floral hops. Nice carbonation, lively in the mouth. The flavor is adjunct free, sweet and malty with a hint of apple and a nice hop balance. Eastern European lagers aren’t necessarily automatically bad.
