COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

(Bottle. Thanks to SaintMatty) Pitch black colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Lasting brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, dark rye bread and hints of dried fruit. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark bread, chocolate and liquorice. Slightly vinous hints with a touch of dried fruit, port and raisins towards the end. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Some coffee bitterness comes through in the finish. Smooth and rounded mouthfeel. Tasty and well balanced Baltic porter.

Russo (942) - Campinas, BRAZIL - JAN 4, 2010
on tap at Arizona Saloon in Tallinn. Very very dark red color with a thin foam that diminished quickly. Aroma is weak, some roasted malt felt. Flavor is like a pilsen wirh some caramel or sweet thing and a far bitterness. Better than original. I have asked a Pork Neck with BBQ sauce, so This help to beer get a better harmonization.

Pour black with a thin but creamy beige head. The aroma starts with deeply roasted malts, syrupy sweetness of burnt candy and a touch of vanilla. Coffee and especially milk chocolate spice the finish with slightly irony hoppiness. I also found some diacetyl in the finish. The flavor has both syrupy sweetness and sourness of chocolate and roasted malts. Moderate to low bitterness. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. The flavor is full bodied and thick and slick like oil. Low carbonation. Long and chocolatey finish. A bit sweet and simple to my taste but still an ejoyable brew.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2010 from old notesA sturdy, brown foam rests above a black-brown beer. Mildly roasty, creamy aroma of sweet coffee, then toasty, perhaps a bit of rum. Sugar and caramel sweetness, very smooth and clean roasty bitterness and acidity; long coffee aftertaste. Creamy with plenty of fine carbonation and a thick body.

Somewhat restrained for the alcohol, but clean, tasty and balanced.

50 cl bottle, best before 23 October 2009.

Shy rum-raisin and milk chocolate nose with a broad maltiness. Deep, clear, brown-black hue under a short, light tan foam. Medium-high sweetness, low acidity, moderate hop and roast bitterness. Big malty flavor at the start, then roasty, but becomes watery into the short finish. Medium body, oily texture, and soft carbonation after a lively pour. Straightforward and enjoyable. While nothing detracts here the nose could be more robust and there could be a little more impact. 50 cl bottle, bb 08.06.2010.

Very dark brown in color, almost black. An average tan head that diminishes quickly without lacing. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate and brown sugar. Sweetish chocolatey flavor with roasted malts, alcohol, coffee and metallic notes is slightly burnt. A quite enjoyable baltic porter and the best estonian beer I’ve had so far. Not bad.

Bottle. [thank you, oh6gdx]
[vintage 2007]
Pours almost black with just some red edges. A big, frothy, off-white head - fine duration. Very pleasant sweet maltiness, some chocolate and roasted malts. Medium carbonation, super mouthfeel - good dryness. Flavour starts with just a tad of metal, but afterwards there are super fine roasted malts, dry hops, chocolate. Super fantastic long dry aftertaste.
