COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

(bottle) Very dark brown, almost black colour with a thick and dense, beige coloured foamy head. Roast-malty aroma, slightly sugary with caramel, cacao and a touch of liquorice sweetness. Roast-bitter flavour, pleasant roast-malt character with caramel, liquorice and notes of chocolate in the background, medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Dry-ish, bitter-roasty finish with a coffee-like aftertaste. Nice and pleasant.

Courtesy of oh6gdx. Thanks, Pat. Highly concentrated chocolate, raisin, malt aroma. Hints at brown sugar and fruit cake without totally being evidently comprised of those aromas. The body is dark ruby brown to black and holds a compressed tan head that is fairly bubbly. Fairly hot alcohol in the fore followed by some metallic/tin notes then burnt/roasted sweet malts that taste a bit like if you pan fried sweet raisin bread. Raisins, licorice and caramel notes linger. Decent though comes off a bit hot.

Dark brown with a brown creamy head. Malty caramel aroma - easy roasted malts & metal. Smooth roasted malty taste more caramel than coffee with again a metallic note. Slight sweet with a dry bitter end!

Bottle, 7.5%. Mildly bready aroma, I do not get any roasted notes or the like. Black colour, big stable light brown head. The flavour is a lot more powerful than the aroma. Slightly sweet liquorice flavour, turning more bitter before going liquoricy again. Good, sticky mouthfeel. Very nice.

500 ml bottle, via Papsoe. Pours a very dark brown body under a fizzy and foamy light brown head. Good head retention partly due to the moderate visible carbonation. Classic Baltic Porter nose, lots of burnt caramel, some roast, bitter chocolate, light alcohol, light tar, and a little licorice. Flavor is burnt caramel and dark brown sugar in large quantities up front. Some light malt derived bitterness on the finish that keeps the sweetness in check. Some light plum and dark fruit notes throughout. Mouthfeel is full bodied and a little thick with soft slightly fizzy carbonation. Slightly oily in texture. A pretty nice beer. Very surprised to se the relatively low ratings for this one.
