COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Bottled. Poured medium brown with a tall, creamy beige head.. looked great in the glass! The aroma was very sweet with molasses, baker’s chocolate, vanilla, and caramel leading.. light, fresh, earthy hop accents.. a little to candy-sweet, but solid. The flavor was sweet as well, and a bit muddled.. cheaper chocolates and molasses at the core, with light cocoa bitterness and fresh earth around.. picked up some peppery alcohol on the dry, roasty finish. Medium-bodied and well carbonated on the palate.. too sweet to be really enjoyable (to me), but not surprising.. I’d still drink it again.

Bottled, 0.5 l. Pours dark amber colour with high creamy brownish head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Sweet malty flavour with notes of chocolate, while mouthfeel is lightly bitter and quite short. Full bodied with creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Very good one.

Bottle/50cl - Pours a quite dark and opaque brown in color with a small tan head that faded quickly to a thin rim around the top of the beer. Aroma is not that strong, but is mostly of roasty malts and no hops to speak of. Flavor is mostly medium roasted malts, some chocolate and just the barest hint of coffee. The chocolate flavoring increases significantly as the beer warms (DO NOT drink this beer too cold!) A pleasant lingering bitterness in the finish along with the chocolate malts. I really like the flavors of this beer, but it is just a bit too sweet for me... Definitely worth repeating... if I could find it again.

Deep brown pour with a tight tan head. The nose is quite toasty and a little bit sweet. Some dark sweet malt and a little bit of cocoa. A touch of toffee and some sweet chocolate. A little bit of lean sweet malt and a bit of toffee. Some slight dark malt character. Moderately roasted character with a little bit of acidity. Warming brings it more into balance than it starts, but it’s still a little bit on the sweet side along with some toffee.
