COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Bottle. Aroma is roasty malt with some spice, weird sidenote. Flavour is chocholate, caramel malt, roast, some salty baltic notes. Nice.

I love baltic porters. Dark brown / black pour with red hues. Aromas and tastes of earth, chocolate, roast ans tobacco. A good brew.

50 cl bottle. Rated on 28.11.2008
Aroma has some sweet, roasted malt and hints of coffee. Flavour has a bit overroasted, almost burned, malt. Some sugar-like sweetness too. Good porter, easy to drink.

50cl bottle from ABCbeers. Lots of creamy off white head. Dark brown pour. Quite a decent baltic porter

Poured black with a short tan head. Dried fruits and liquorice on the aroma with caramel, roasted and more fruit notes in the taste also picked up on some figs. What I expect from a baltic porter.

Poured a very dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma has lots of caramel and chocolate. Lots of dark fruits with raisins as well. Slightly nutty. Taste is slightly creamy with dark fruits and cherries at first. There is also a distinct licorice flavor. Taste transitions to have more roasted flavors with caramel. Finish has more raisins with coffee. Overall very flavorful, but I’m not sure I like the flavor combinations as much.

Chevy Case Liquor Mart, DC 500ml ($3.25): Pours a very nice black with a proper beige head. Aroma is very fruity and doesn’t really have much in the way of roasted malts, though there is plenty of licorice and I suppose figs or something. Taste is much the same. The front is dominated by that Eastern European candy sweetness and the fruit flavors that go with it and towards the end you finally get a brief taste of the roasted malts. Not my favorite of the style by any means, even though it is perfectly drinkable.
