COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

500ml Bottle. Dark colour with some depp-dark amber tinge. The head is medium but very nice a little bit same as a englis/american porter. The tast is like a bockbier. It is a typical Baltic Porter. In the flavour chocolate, red-fruits and roasted malt. In the tast some chocolate, roasted malt, and sweetness of malt. The full mouth is simplya and you don’t taste the additional corn as the east-european bockbiers.

Decent for style--it’s a less cloying, if thinner, BP. Nice alcohol burn complements the caramel malt. Would say "great for Saku", but in fact it’s a Latvian beer in terms of production, so Estonia shouldn’t really claim this one

Bottle from La Mesa Market. Bottled at 7.5%. Sweet malty nose. Flavor is roasty and sweet with some anise. Nice and smooth. Not too roasty. Mostly sweet and anise. Tasty little porter.

BoostIPA (1186) - Pouring Bus, New York, USA - SEP 15, 2012
Bottle labeled at 7.5% ABV. Pours a clearish black, thin looking but with a huge head that lasts for a while. Aromas of caramel, some light roast, some cocoa, some salt water. Briney mouthfeel, with notes of plums, roast, very dry chocolate. You can tell this is lagered, which isn’t a bad thing... In fact it is a refreshing change from the coffee stouts I have been on lately. This beer is nice. Not much hops to speak of, but the briney chocolate, bitter concoction goes down really well. This is a bargain at $2/500ml. I could say that I would buy this again, but since I usually don’t buy the same beer twice anymore, I’d be lying to you. But you should give it a try. Decent beer.

Beerheart65 (957) - Pori, FINLAND - SEP 9, 2012
Aroma has dark chocolate and herbs. Dark red/black, big frothy head is beige and medium long and leaves lacing. Taste has roasted coffee, dark chocolate, some dark fruits in finish, also salty licorice. More nuances as this beer gets warmer. Soft and full bodied, dry and roasted. Good nicely flavored porter for Christmas time.

Grovlam (4152) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 1, 2012
Bottle. Large brown bubbly head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Sparkling light mahogany color. Light dry malty feel, with a hint of light roasted malty notes as well. Hint of coffee as well. Over the palate came surprisingly strong notes, with sweet coffee, hint of chocolate and roasted malty notes. Medium bodied with an average carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor with some counter bitterness. Lingering roasted malty and coffee finish. Quite nice actually.

Pours purplish-black with a thick, dark tan head....large frothy bubbles. Scent is malt, slightly roasty....a little wood. Taste is cocoa powder, very sweet, creamy. It’s a dessert. Very, very, tasty.
