COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Bready, dark color with a foamy latte-colored head. Aromas of malt, fruits, bread. Flavors of dark rye bread, coffee, licorice, soy sauce. Overall, a very nice and smooth beer.

Appearance: dark brown with a big fluffy khaki head shrinking to a solid collar. Aroma: cocoa, coffee, licorice and earth. Taste: blast of toasted black bread, unsweet licorice, bitter chocolate and coffee. Finish: lingering coffee and earthy grains, some dry bitterness. Notes: Not bad. A little watery, a little over-carbonated. So far, the Sinebrychoff BP is my favorite of this type.

500 ml bottle. Rated @ 6.11.2009.
Pours a dark brown colour with a medium-sized brown head. Sweet malty aroma with some roastiness. Flavour of roasted malts, sweet caramel and dried fruits. Full/medium bodied with an oily texture. Nice Baltic Porter.

Bottled. Pitch black in color, minor brown head. The aroma is sweet, burnt malt with a hint of burnt sugar. The flavor is malty and sweet.

Bottle pours dark brown with amber hue small tan head. Aroma is soy sauce, dark fruits, coffee, and molasses. Taste is similar to aroma yet watery with a slick oily texture. Not a great balance and too sweet for my liking.

First, this is somewhat different brew than it used to be before 2009. The alcohol level has been reduced from 7,5% to 7,0% and it’s not even produced in Estonia anymore. Bottle. Appearance is really dark brown, close to black. The head is thick and brown. Aroma is burnt caramel, fruits and chocolate malts. Once the taste kicks in there is even more burnt caramel and the otherwise beautifully thick malty body feels almost syrupy sweet to the point that it overshadows any other nuances in the palette. The redeeming point is that it is widely available and really inexpensive here in Estonia.

Bottle thanks to BVC. My first Estonian beer! Pours a dark brown almost black color with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich caramel, toasted malts, chocolate. The flavor is smooth and easy; toasted malt, caramel, chocolate and cocoa. Very nice.
