COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Bottle. (thanks SaintMatty) Almost black with a medium tan head. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate, some coffee, syrup and some fruits. The taste was also sweet with milk chocolate, licorice, some alcohol, some butter and sugar. Medium body and medium carbonation. Dry finish with taste of roasted malt. An ok beer but not the world’s best porter.

In the 0.5L bottle from Dirty John’s Grocery. This was the 7.5% versionA ridiculously cheap price. Pours black with a somewhat large beige creamy head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, horehound, and licorice. Not thick as a brick, but definitely not watery in body either. This has reasonably good chewiness. Good rich notes of chocolate, roasted barley and a bit of licorice. Nice beer for the price.

500 ml bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch tan head. Head retention is good, but not much lacing at all. Aroma is nice and malty, the brew smells like roasted malt, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, and some dark fruit. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but the bitter flavors in this beer are stronger compared to the other ones, although the bitterness does ease up a bit as the beer warms up more. From the aroma I thought this would be a sweeter tasting beer, but that’s not the case. Mouthfeel/body is medium, and is well carbonated. Drinkability is decent too, but not impressive. I think it’s an OK overall brew.

Bottle@Home. Rather sweet but tasty. Loads of milk chocolate and quite malty. Almost sugary bust just not. Sticky mouth feel.
