COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Poured two and half fingers on a pitch black body. The head was quickly gone though. The aroma is faint: roasted and black malt. The taste is darkness with a sweet touch. Burnt and roasted malt with a sweet finish. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. It’s lacking in the smell area but the taste is nice.

Reddish brown color. Big creamy beige head.soft earthy malt nose. Tasty sweet herbal malt flavor has a coffee-like character. Wonderfully smooth and creamy. Reminiscent of a German Dunkel or Marzen. Quite tasty.

500 ml bottle. Aroma of chocolate, biscuits and bit of coffee. Medium sweetness. Carbonation could be a bit softer, while the texture is too thin in my view. Overall, a recommendable porter.

Kauge (155) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - SEP 25, 2014
Bottle from a Comarket in Tallinn (€ 1,19), Sept 2014. BB 12/07/15. Pours black with a mahagony glare - head is big, creamy in coulour, laces nicely and drops slowly. Disturbingly, the aroma recalls boiled vegetables and some bad black bread, cold black coffee, caramel or molasses, it’s sweet, sour and acidic. Taste is quite sweet of caramelised sugar, also a lot of roasty malts, black bread, it’s also got some bitterness to it. Overall not very pleasant, metallic, acidic, sour taste. Body and carbonation medium, dry and metallic on the palate, a bit watery even. Metallic finish with very little but pronounced, daggering bitterness. Both times I’ve recently had this I’ve wished this was in a smaller bottle. I ain’t a fan.

Huge beige head on the black-brown body with dark ruby tones. Crocheted and curtain’ish lacings. Aroma; roasted malts, black syrup, prunes and (straw)berries, chocolate, flowers. Taste; sweet roasted malts, hints of hops, mocca coffee with caramel syrup droplets, very modest liquorice notes, notes of some berries. On palate somewhat dry, nice body, soft carbonation. Finishes with warmth, dark roasted caramels, hoppy hints and anonymous berries. Overall an easy decent porter. [50cl brown spec.btl 6.9%abv BB25.03.15]

Bottle at home. Has a black colour with a light brown, big head. A bit careful aroma of roasted malt, coffee and some dark chocolate. The flavour is similar but feels more roasted. Has a slick and soft mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A light, balanced and easy-drinking baltic porter.

Pours a deep black color, topped with a decent tan colored head, retention is also fine. There is a very pleasant chocolate aroma mixed with some raosted aroma as well. The taste is slightly sweet and creamy, chocolate is dominant, followed by roasted feel and coffee. The finish is mildly bitter. All in all a very enjoyable beer.
