COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Melko pliisu olut, hajusta voisi kuvitella tummaksi lageriksi. Maku oli kuitenkin hajua monipuolisempi, joka pelasti.

CanCrusher (874) - Ilirska Bistrica, SLOVENIA - MAY 23, 2013
Bottle 0,50L. Dark brown mahagony colour with small, light brown creamy head that sits down quickly, but doesn’t dissapear. Light malty aroma of caramel, chocolate and roasted malt. Light sweet, cacao taste with moderate bitter aftertaste with mild mouthfeel. Medium to full body, oily texture and light carbonation. Nicely balanced and lighter than Saku Puhade Porter. Very mild and drinkable.

Draught.Very dark with no head due to low carbonation. Aroma of actual liquorice which I’ve only ever smelled in one other beer. Flavour is nicely roasted, but not burnt malt and just slightly of a char grilled steak. Very thick and syrupy. Pretty darn good.

This is an interesting beer. Body is too light for style. The color is a gorgeous red. Hold a light up to it, and you’ll see what I mean (about the body too). Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of a head. Pretty hoppy for an Eastern European brew, but I think that’s what makes it memorable, as opposed to other Eastern European beers that you forget about 10 minutes after you drink them. I’ve bought it before, and I’ll buy it again when I’m in the mood.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2014 Reddish brown beer with smallish head. Roasted and smoky malts, little bit of grassy hop aromas. Mildly smoky, roasted malts and grassy hops in the end. Pretty thin for a porter, high carbonation.

Bottle 50 cl. Black brownish color with fast vanishing brownish frothy head. Notes of roasted malts, syrup, caramel, chocolate. Slightly wattery. Pretty easy to drink. Could do with some more depth and body tho.

Bottle pours brown-black with medium tan head. Aroma dark malts, a bit sour. Taste dark malts, a little roast and caramel, Didn’t get much coffee or chocolate. Finish fairly clean with a bit of roast. Palate medium-thick, not quite syrupy Alcohol slightly apparent. Not bad, but there’s better Baltic porters out there.

marcot (770) - Campomorone, ITALY - JAN 3, 2011
Baltic porter pienamente in stile, bevuta in bottiglia comprata al supermercato e pagata 11 corone (66 eurocent circa). Rispetto alla qualità da supermercato che si trova in Italia, ce n’è d’avanzo

A deep amber/brown. Light for a porter. Thin creamy head, decent lace. Nose of caramel, plums, grains, alcohol, slight oxidation and more. Thinnish feel hold some decent flavors, dark, sweet, caramelized malts. Touch of anise and a nice alcoholic warmth orburn depending how you look at it. Starts a bit harsh but once your palate settles, this baby becomes your best friend. Maybe a bit of oxidation but an enjoyable brew.

This is a ok Baltic Porter. Roasty, malt, and toffee flavors. Finishes clean, smooth, and creamy.
