COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

A bit too light body, but a nice, complex taste with an alcoholic kick.

Okay, color is great black with dark brown head, but the beer bubbles way too much so after the head disappeares (which happes pretty quickly) the beer looks like coca-cola in the class; aroma of chocolate, liquorice and syrup: overly sweet and besides that something strange, soapy thing - or if it´s the cheap vodka-like alcohol, I don´t know - in the side is trying to ruin the nose the best it can; medium body, not perfectly smooth, a bit overcarbonated; sweet flavor of roasted malt, chocolate and liquorice with mild bitterness in finish; slightly wet.

Bottle@home Appearance: Pitch black with a huge brown creamy head that vanishes a bit too quickly. Aroma: Molasses, Chocolate, Roasted malt, Dark bread, Smoke Flavor: Bitter coffee, Sugar, Molasses, Fruit, Tobacco, Caramel. Palate: Body is quite think and has very low carbonation. A very sweet porter with a dry, ashy, aftertaste. This is not a bad porter but it’s too sweet for me. Paired nicely with some dark chocolate tho. If you’re into sweet porters this might appeal to you!

(Bottle BB 30/10/07) Roasted malty, slightly coffee and caramel aroma with a hint of alcohol. Dark red brown colour and brownish, average size, more or less fully diminishing head with faint lacing. Sweet, burned, coffee, licorice, slightly caramel and slightly bitter flavour. Softly carbonated, medium-bodied palate with a hint of alcohol. The best Saku brew I’ve tasted so far! 15/12/06

Has a black color. Smell is of roasted malts and dark fruits. Taste is good, malts, coffee, dark fruits, a touch of hops. Overall a fine beer worth seeking out.

This bottle was bought in Estonia, the alcohol is 7.5% and it is labelled something like “vintage 2004”.

The colour is pitch-dark. The pale brown foam fills almost the whole glass, but it sinks down with a fizzing sound into a two finger thick head.

A roasted flavour dominates the smell, but there are also notes of candle grease, some spices, sweet malt and hints of alcohol and smoke. It is not 100% pleasant.

The carbonation is medium strong with small bubbles. The mouth feel is creamy.

The taste is unexpectedly mild and simple with roasted notes, some sweetness, over boiled vegetables (cabbage?) and margarine. There is no alcohol in the taste whatsoever. The aftertaste is somewhat unbalanced with a strong bitterness and roasted malt. It is surprisingly drinkable considering the alcoholic content.

Wow instead of another crappy Euro-lager the LCBO brings in something decent. Nice brown colour with almost no head. The nose is weet and malty and the taste is no different. Strong notes of caramel with a little bit of chocolate. Also vaguely fruity. Not BAd.

Baltic porter is a thoroughly misunderstood style. First of all, I believe it’s a lager, and has little resemblance to London style porter. This is a good example, being dark amber in color, with good caramelly taste and a slightly burnt toast flavor. Closer to a doppelbock, actually.
