3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Marduk (1266) - Tallinn, - NOV 16, 2012500ml bottle. Dark brown, almost black color. Tiny beige head, dissapears quickly. Sweet, dusty dark chocolate dominates the aroma. Chocolate, sweet, somewhat milky, mellow flavor. I like that milky sidetaste. Unfortunately it comes out only when beer is totally warmed up. Quite drinkable in slow pace.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BeerViking (1424) - Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, GERMANY - MAR 8, 2013
Festive White Chocolate Porter, 50cl bottle from the Estonian gluhwein stand in the Lunenburg Weihnachsmarkt... Pours a dark black-brown with a fast-settling beige head and aromas of chocolate, toffee and maybe just a little nutmeg or cinnamon. Initially chocolate and little coffee on the palate, then burnt caramel and roast malt coming in, along with a treacle-toffeeish sweetness more reminiscent of a Doppelbock. The finish is more dry-sweet, as the burnt edge of the treacle is boosted by a light hoppy bitterness.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 brugmanneke (222) - GERMANY - FEB 11, 2013
(50 cl bottle) Reddish dark brown colour, rather clear, with a beige head. Aroma is roasted with lots of chocolate (white or milk), but not immensely complex. A slight metallic touch and no trace of hoppy aroma. Heavily sweet taste, light bitterness. Short finish. Not bad, but nothing to get very passionate about either.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 agent_persik (106) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 22, 2013
Dark ruby color almost black, small head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate. Mostly sweet flavor of caramel malts and coffee with touch of white chocolate and alcohol, lightly bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad actually, quite interesting Christmas porter.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ledhenrik (2) - ESTONIA - DEC 28, 2012 does not count
The only problem is the top.. it does not last.. and that’s a big prolem. Imo it’s lack of knowledge how to bottle a great beer. But the taste is absolutely the best among Estonian christmas porters. All in all its a great beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CanCrusher (309) - Ilirska Bistrica, SLOVENIA - NOV 27, 2012
Bottle. Very dark ruby colour with a finger of creamy light brown head. Sweet chocolate (or let’s say cacao) is dominant aroma, but there are also notes of brown sugar, caramel, honey and some dark fruits like plums and cherries. Oily texture is sweet at the start, but than turns into moderate bitter. Real winter warmer, goes fine with some chocolate dessert.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 estpiwo (1086) - ESTONIA - NOV 19, 2012
Bottle. Dark brown color, creamy head. Milk chocolate tones in taste, oily, sweet, little bit roasted malts. Finish was light bitter and smoky. Good.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7496) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 12, 2012
500ml bottle (Koht, Tallinn)
Initially a sweet, slightly plasticky, aroma, some plummy or figgy dark sweet fruitiness. Later a bit chocolatey too I guess. Nice dark body and a tight tan head. Body is a little slick, but has crisp carbonation. Alas, those two things don’t cancel each other out, so it is doubly annoying. The taste is odd, plasticky, and sweet. Some strange orangey aspect to it, and again weird dark mediciney fruits, including horribly fake cherry medicine. Finish is sweet, some muted hops, some odd chocolate orange. Sub-par baltic porter. Almost every new brew they do is worse than the previous one.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hens (195) - Tallinn, Estonia, ESTONIA - NOV 11, 2012
0.5l bottle. Nice sweet aroma, like a vanilla-caramel. Taste is soft and bit sweet, little chemical taste. Vanilla flavor is dominated. A little more and taste is like strong porter must be with little caramel. After taste is a medium bitter with medium "pluss" vanilla and passion fruit. Very nice body. Good winter beer.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Senka (117) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 3, 2012
0,5L bottle. Bottled 7 days ago. Strong caramel aroma with a bit of ethanol. Pleasant spicy hops. A bit mouldy yeast. Very faint "white" chocolate taste stumped by heavy % - you really have to "search" for it. Old oak in color, clear with thick head - as proper Baltic Porter should be. Lightly sweet with more bitterness to it. Salty - you can taste that more than "white" chocolate. Medium body, creamy texture due to righ lively carbonation. Pleasant bitter finish.
This is much more pleasant to my taste, than Viru GB Wild Dark, but again, they are in different categories. Saku Pühadeporter is a good one this year. Recommendation:
This porter will beautifully accompany roast meal as well as blood sausages with cranberry jam. Easily drinkable, even though it is 6.9%. P.S. Try to get it as fresh as possible - otherwise you will get some taste of that rubber from the cap.
