3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackHaddock (2365) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 5, 2013
Hand-pulled half-pint during the 34th Telford Beer Festival at the Crown Inn, Oakengates on 4 May 2013.
Ruby to dark brown body with an off-white head.
Coffee and dark chocolate esters hit your nose and these follow on into the taste, this is a lovely malty yet dry tasting Mild. It has a bitter finish but not overly so: I found it most enjoyable, it is a long way from the old Milds that used to be seen all over the UK, this had more body and flavour thoughout.

Cask conditioned handpump Market Porter London 16/05/12. Called a mild on the Salopian website but this way too hoppy. Their tweet to me agreed that it’s not really a mild, more a low ABV BIPA. We’ll leave it here as a mild but it’s stylistically impossible to place. Whatever it is though, it’s lovely. It is a dark mahogany coloured beer verging on black with an off-white head and lacing. It’s very very fruity and hoppy. Sweet malts. Berries and boozy. A great length of big fruity hops. Chocolate and lots of late bitterness. Superb. I’ve had some great Salopian beers obviously, but interestingly two of the best were in The Market Porter.
