COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly available bottled. Has been seen on tap.
Historically the term used to describe a porter blended from a variety of ales, entire butt uses 14 different malts and 3 hops to recreate this forgotten style of porter. The beer is black/brown with a crisp white head and is distinctly vinuous. It has little hop character as essentially the flavour is derived from the malts. Malts used: pale Maris Otter, lager, wheat, pale crystal, dark crystal, dark chocolate, pale chocolate, black, roasted barley, caramalt, torrified wheat, amber malt, brown malt and malted oats.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. Hard to tell if itís cloudy, but the beer looks pretty clear in the light. Nice, glowy color. Medium tan head. Lots of fine bubbles. After a few minutes, thereís still a decent film of bubbles. Iím getting chocolate maltiness as the primary flavor in the aroma, but itís backed up by a mix of fruit, nutty brown malt, caramel, molasses, light coffee/roast and a hint of wood. Thereís a lot of malt complexity to this beer. Very nice toasty malt notes. A rather rich aroma for <5% abv. The flavor is a touch weaker for me. The malt complexity is still there, but some of the rich sweetness is gone. It starts out with a fairly simple sweetness before bringing in some nice fruity flavors and takes its time pulling out the chocolate and roast. Good finish with roast, tobacco and earth hops lingering for some time. Mouthfeel is smooth. Drinks big for the abv. British brewers know how to pack flavor into lower abv beers. Sits a bit light on the palate, though. Not the best impersonation of cask mouthfeel for a bottled beer that Iíve found, but itís always a losing effort and itís still nice. This is an enjoyable porter with lots of rich British malt flavor in a relatively small package. I would love to see more American brewers make a serious effort with this sort of beer.

Pours a dark brownish not quite black with a medium tan head. The aroma is earthy, with caramel, chocolate, nuts, and bready malts. The taste has a main focus on chocolate and nuts. It is very malty and bready, especially as the taste lingers in your mouth. I find some hints of raisin in here as well. Aftertaste consists of caramel, chocolate and bread. Medium bodied and chewy in texture. It isnít overly carbonated. Not bad. I think I actually like this a bit more than my rating suggests. All of the impressions are rather subtle here. But Iím drinking this, the more Iím enjoying it.

Not very familiar with English porters... This beer has a slightly bitter taste, yet is kind of tasty with a dark aftertaste. . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle conditioned. Dark ruby red, no head, Aroma of malts. Taste is of burnt malt, dark fruits, coffee and a dry chocolate finish. The palate is a little weak. A nice porter from one of the better breweries.

Very well done. Pours dark brown with a white head. The aroma has a bit of fruit and a lot of malt. Same for the flavor. Bread, toast, caramel to name a few. Very rich and creamy.

Lovely soft almost buttery milky chocolate aroma. Some nice hops early on too. Full in the mouth, a rich rast, but with some sharp bitterness. Drying burntness in part, but leaves you wanting more. Hops carry through quite strongly in the finish too, even though the burnt roast is the primary aspect of the beer. Very nice, could happily stick several of these down be back to back, despite the dry burntness.

Aroma has a subtle sweet quality. Pours a black color with a tan head. Tastes of bitter coffee which carries through into the aftertaste. Light bodied with minimal carbonation. Overall, while enjoyable, I would like to have a fuller bodied brew.

50cl bottle. Dark almost black colour with light white head. Some coffee and roastness in nose. Balanced taste but some way too bitter first bite for porter. Still a good brew.

Pours clear, deep ruby-black with a strong, cloud-like , puffy tan head. Taste is well balanced....coffee, malt, chocolate... Nut and wood. Very good, almost more of a dark amber than porter.... Still.... a wonderful brew.
