Commercial Description:
Historically the term used to describe a porter blended from a variety of ales, entire butt uses 14 different malts and 3 hops to recreate this forgotten style of porter. The beer is black/brown with a crisp white head and is distinctly vinuous. It has little hop character as essentially the flavour is derived from the malts. Malts used: pale Maris Otter, lager, wheat, pale crystal, dark crystal, dark chocolate, pale chocolate, black, roasted barley, caramalt, torrified wheat, amber malt, brown malt and malted oats.

Draft. Pours dark ruby with a tan head. Malty aroma with brown sugar, chocolate and toast. Watery body. Roasted malt flavor, caramel and a light burnt note. Food flavor but the weak body really holds it back.

This is a very nice porter. It’s almost black, reddish brown with a medium tan head slowly shrinking, The smell is a light take on a porter, with chocolate, roasted malt, dark toast, hitns of \prunes and fruit, with hint of coffee and a stronger mocha aroma when warmer. The taste is pleasant light porter taste, smooth, fruity and toasty with light chocolate, light bitterness, fruity, hints of wine, and a peppery quality in the finish. The coffee element in the taste is almost unnoticeable. It’s highly drinkable.

Bottle at home ... Deep brown ... thin roast malt nose...mellow roast malts l... some toffee reasonable hop level... after the imperial stout its definitly a bit thin. but i’ll give it benifit of doubt.

Botella. Black with red top tones and a good lasting light brown creamish head. Nice soft roasty maltiness with chocolate in the aroma. Quite good a mouthfeel. The flavour has a good soft but profound roasty maltiness and caramel with a pleasant mild bitterness, and chocolate. Roasty dry finish. Tasty brew indeed.

Bottle from Ricoh Tossco. Dark ruby silk capped with beige. Ravishing thick bonfire snout dragging in espresso, chocolate, vegetables(?), mildewy old books, hazelnut and smoke. Brimstone and blackcurrant. Uncomplicated coffee, cocoa and charcoal mouth. A beer redefining my perception of malt, and the depth of flavours that can be conjured from that alone. Chalky, burnt, earthy and smooth. Who needs hops?

Bottle that I picked up from Westholme Londis, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon, consumed at Cropredy Festival 2008 Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Quit bizarrely I get sausage and chocolate on the nose? Interesting combination but strangely one that works quite well. Chocolate and a thin sasparilla taste, carbonation is soft, in short this is a nice beer.
