Cask (Peterborough Beer Festival 2004)
Black, thin head. Strongly burnt malts on the nose and in the mouth, but not overpoweringly so. Full bodied, but a little drying.

Cask handpull at Flower Pot Maidstone. Very dark brown near black beer with lasting beige head. In good condition. Quite a hoppy aroma. Some dark malts and dark juicy fruits in mouth. Almost more of a black American pale ale than a stout. On the whole I am not a fan of stouts and not hugely fond of hoppy stouts. Decent though

Cask at the Magpie in Brentford. Deep reddish black with a fine beige head. Nose has coffee, treacle and dark fruit, body is smooth and creamy initially, then a burst of smoky roasty malt, underlying hints of forest fruits and old ale sourness, and finally treacle toffee with lots of hoppy bite. Long roasty bitter finish. Yummy!

Dover Fest. Smokey and ashey. A dry and tasty ashy coffee stout. Straight forward and good enough for all that. A nice finish to the day.
