Cask; Regular.
OG: 1044
Colour: Bright Gold
Style: A wheat beer very much in the modern English style – served bright and top fermented. The recipe uses a small amount of fresh lemon to compliment the citrussy flavours produced by the wheat malt. Each of the Hops used, Goldings, Saaz and Cascade add fresh lemony flavours to the brew.
History: Originally Salopian was renowned (notorious?) for producing some fairly outlandish beer, usually brewed with wheat and fruit flavoured. Most of these were surprisingly well received, but mainly in speciality outlets or in bottles. Lemon Dream was devised to be far more subtle – basically a slightly lagery, lightly bittered beer with a hint of lemon. We felt that this would appeal to a broader market and this has definitely been the case, with many ‘traditional’ Pubs running the beer as a regular through the spring and summer. It has found favour at competitions too, winning an award at CAMRA West Midlands 4 years on the bounce as well as at SIBA West Midlands too.

Gravity at Beer Rebellion. Pours a golden colour without much if a head. Orange/lemon aroma, a little soapy. Light body, thin with little carbonation. Orange and lemon, very slightly sherberty. A bit dull. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the Birmingham Beer Festival 2013. Poured a crystal clear light amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is strong lemon citrus fruit, dry yeast, stale malt and a hint of liqourice. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a watery light bodied palate. I expected more but I can’t say I was too disappointed.

Cask at The Shrewsbury Hotel. Didnt get a lot of Lemon from this, which with a name like Lemon Dream is somewhat disappointing. Taste was ok but not quite tasty enough to get me buying another.

On cask
This is a decent wheat ale. Being on cask it had slightly less life than it might have had otherwise. I would hardly call this outlandish. Perhaps in the UK this is "on the edge" but the United States has been pushing the envelope far more. I believe they tried to be far too subtle.

Aroma / Appearance - The transparent golden base has very light traces of carbonation but not much else. Cool lemon crisp and a gentle oaky nature sit very subtlely in the air. This winds up being too timid and as a result drab.

Flavor / Palate - Crisp lemon, wheat, and honey glazed cheerios tease the palate. I keep expecting something more but it never comes. The mild finish tastes like lemonade instead of beer. It lacks the strength of a robust wheat ale. Much like other pubs at least the price was not too much to have rolled the dice.

Gravity, Nuneaton&Beduth BF, 22/06/13. Pale gold wisped with white. Enticing stewed chlorophyll, tropical fruit, dishcloth dunked in Rubicon aroma: 8. Was worried this would be a ladybeer but nothing like it; punchy, zesty, loaded with guava, papaya grapefruit and biscuit. Dunked biscuit in black tea. Joint BOTF with the Oakham Eugene and Slater’s Sorachi.

Cask at Oliver Twist. Clear golden colour with a minimal white head. Fruity, citrus aroma. Flavour is similar to the aroma, very strong citrus with some fruits thrown in.
