COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
OG: 1044
Colour: Bright Gold
Style: A wheat beer very much in the modern English style – served bright and top fermented. The recipe uses a small amount of fresh lemon to compliment the citrussy flavours produced by the wheat malt. Each of the Hops used, Goldings, Saaz and Cascade add fresh lemony flavours to the brew.
History: Originally Salopian was renowned (notorious?) for producing some fairly outlandish beer, usually brewed with wheat and fruit flavoured. Most of these were surprisingly well received, but mainly in speciality outlets or in bottles. Lemon Dream was devised to be far more subtle – basically a slightly lagery, lightly bittered beer with a hint of lemon. We felt that this would appeal to a broader market and this has definitely been the case, with many ‘traditional’ Pubs running the beer as a regular through the spring and summer. It has found favour at competitions too, winning an award at CAMRA West Midlands 4 years on the bounce as well as at SIBA West Midlands too.

Cask ale, half at The Lion Tavern. Moderate white head leaving foamy lacing down the glass. Clear pale golden coloured body. Modest smell of lemony hops, mid-sweet. Grass hoppy flavours with scents of orange and lemon. Mild bittersweet tail. Easy to drink. A refreshing session drink (Liverpool 30.01.2015).

On draught at the great western in wolves. Amazing lemon aroma, which I like, but I can imagine has its detractors. Didn’t feel like I was drinking a wheat beer but more a golden ale with a mild bitterness, citrus notes that verged on sherbert and again I imagine lots of people would not like this...but I did! Its not a wheat beer for a wheat beer fan, in fact I didn’t even realise it was supposed to be a wheat beer! Would go down well in the summer with food I imagine.

Cask @ GBBF14. Smooth and grainy beginning. Not much lemon, only hints of. The mainpart is easy to drink, fresh grainy hints with if you think of sourish lemon-like endings. The aftertaste is smooth, fresh. Not much deepness there, hints of lemons, but only hints. Fresh grains, nice yeast and a nice ale flavour. Not as much lemon as expected...

has the distinct achievement of managing to smell of nothing at all, amber gold in colour with no head mildly sweet with a mild lemony citrus flavour. very watery. should be filed under the must try harder section.
