COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
OG: 1044
Colour: Bright Gold
Style: A wheat beer very much in the modern English style – served bright and top fermented. The recipe uses a small amount of fresh lemon to compliment the citrussy flavours produced by the wheat malt. Each of the Hops used, Goldings, Saaz and Cascade add fresh lemony flavours to the brew.
History: Originally Salopian was renowned (notorious?) for producing some fairly outlandish beer, usually brewed with wheat and fruit flavoured. Most of these were surprisingly well received, but mainly in speciality outlets or in bottles. Lemon Dream was devised to be far more subtle – basically a slightly lagery, lightly bittered beer with a hint of lemon. We felt that this would appeal to a broader market and this has definitely been the case, with many ‘traditional’ Pubs running the beer as a regular through the spring and summer. It has found favour at competitions too, winning an award at CAMRA West Midlands 4 years on the bounce as well as at SIBA West Midlands too.

50cl Bottle. Poured a light blonde colour, with a dense white head. Aroma of sherbet, wheat and lemon zest. More lemon in the flavour, with bread and dry, crisp hoppiness. Finish was chalk, straw and peal.

On draught at the great western in wolves. Amazing lemon aroma, which I like, but I can imagine has its detractors. Didn’t feel like I was drinking a wheat beer but more a golden ale with a mild bitterness, citrus notes that verged on sherbert and again I imagine lots of people would not like this...but I did! Its not a wheat beer for a wheat beer fan, in fact I didn’t even realise it was supposed to be a wheat beer! Would go down well in the summer with food I imagine.

Cask @ GBBF14. Smooth and grainy beginning. Not much lemon, only hints of. The mainpart is easy to drink, fresh grainy hints with if you think of sourish lemon-like endings. The aftertaste is smooth, fresh. Not much deepness there, hints of lemons, but only hints. Fresh grains, nice yeast and a nice ale flavour. Not as much lemon as expected...

On cask at Morgan’s in Shrewsbury. Appearance - golden orange with a nice lacy head. Nose - lemon and some sweet fruitcake notes. Some herbs too. Taste - predominantly dried fruit notes with a hint of lemon and herbs towards the end. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - enjoyed it.

Gravity at Beer Rebellion. Pours a golden colour without much if a head. Orange/lemon aroma, a little soapy. Light body, thin with little carbonation. Orange and lemon, very slightly sherberty. A bit dull. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
