COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
OG: 1044
Colour: Bright Gold
Style: A wheat beer very much in the modern English style – served bright and top fermented. The recipe uses a small amount of fresh lemon to compliment the citrussy flavours produced by the wheat malt. Each of the Hops used, Goldings, Saaz and Cascade add fresh lemony flavours to the brew.
History: Originally Salopian was renowned (notorious?) for producing some fairly outlandish beer, usually brewed with wheat and fruit flavoured. Most of these were surprisingly well received, but mainly in speciality outlets or in bottles. Lemon Dream was devised to be far more subtle – basically a slightly lagery, lightly bittered beer with a hint of lemon. We felt that this would appeal to a broader market and this has definitely been the case, with many ‘traditional’ Pubs running the beer as a regular through the spring and summer. It has found favour at competitions too, winning an award at CAMRA West Midlands 4 years on the bounce as well as at SIBA West Midlands too.

Cask@Market Porter, London. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, malts, some toffeeish notes as well as some mild floral and bittery notes. Flavour is being quite much the same. A well balanced and fruity brew.

Cask at Ealing beer festival 2011. A golden/yellow coloured pour with a small white head. Lemon aroma. Not so much lemon in taste, malty and rather thin.

Cask - The Plasterers Arms, Norwich. Small, creamy white head leaving a fairly uniform lace initially; clear golden amber body. Bright lemon and grapefruit aromas, some light spice & floral notes. Lemon cheesecake and grapefruit on the tongue with a decent biscuity malt backbone. Soft, light to medium body, nicely rounded with a dry, modestly bitter finish.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Light, clear yellow pour with a wimpy head. Great aroma, hay, mild cracker, lemon zest. Flavor is modestly sweet, lightly fruity, hints of elderflower and spices, lightly bitter with hay. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Good balance to finish, zesty citrus, floral hops and some straw malts. Nice stuff.

(Cask at Market Porter, London) I liked this one. The citricness, especially in the taste, fit nicely in. Perhaps this was a bit one dimensional but drinkability was really good and the beer didn’t turn boring at any phase - at least when drinking only a half pint.

8th May 2008. Smooth bitter. Just a hint of lemon mainly in the finish where there is also a little hop.

Blonde pint, fairly light blonde. Aroma is midly citrus, but not obviously lemon. Taste is akin to fake lemon, lemon flavoured boiled sweets, some wheat and bitterness. The lemon thing didn’t seem to benefit this.

Not much on the nose, little bit of citrus...maybe. Taste is more lemony, very refreshing and quite dry. Doesn’t linger on the palate but very asy to drink.

Cask at GBBF08. Weak citric aroma, not really lemony. Hazy yellow colour. Small white head. Good citric flavour though, some bitterness, not too much. Lemony aftertaste. Quite refreshing.
