COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.

OG: 1037
Colour: Light Copper/Gold
Style: Golden, with a flora aroma and a full hoppy flavour that is balanced by a crisp dry maltiness and a rich finish
History: Shropshire Gold was first brewed in July 1998. We had decided that a brew was needed that could compete with the session beers produced by National brewers such as Bass as well as other local producers. We decided to make a beer that would have a rich gold colour to please the eye, a full rich flavour to make it appeal to those who preferred a stronger beer, and a pronounced hop character to please everyone! This concept obviously worked as sales have increased markedly year on year. Shropshire Gold now makes up over half the production of the brewery and is listed as the house beer in at least 40 local outlets, a testimony to a consistent product and a keen price.

Small white head. Clear amber body. Light floral fruity aroma with perfumy notes. Dry-sweet perfumy grape taste with fruity resiny notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, flat mouthfeel. Dryish resiny strawy wooden aftertaste with dusty grassy notes. Nice, but a bit harsh. (0.284l cask at Grain Loft, Manchester Airport.)

Pint at The Royal Hill Inn, Edgerley. Really hit the the spot this after a long drive. A thirst quenching blend of floral hops and crisp malts with a clean bitterness. Another pint please barman.

Cask @ Akkurat. Pours golden, only slightly hazy, with a finger high white head. Grape and orange notes in aroma. Taste is malt dominated and somewhat sour (!?) with notes of citrus and with heavy good tasting notes of orange. Low carbonation. Quite smooth.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a pale golden ale with bitter pine and caramel flavours, sweet toffee, biscuit and bitterness on the finish. Superb considering the low ABV.

I have really good friends. I like them lots. They give me different things. Some are generous to a fault (is that possible?), some don’t give much time or energy but offer so much heart, some are simply there. I wonder which type they see me as.

On tap at Akkurat in Stockholm. It had a hoppy smell with fruits and flowers. Similar taste. Very nice and easy to drink.
