History: Shropshire Gold was first brewed in July 1998. We had decided that a brew was needed that could compete with the session beers produced by National brewers such as Bass as well as other local producers. We decided to make a beer that would have a rich gold colour to please the eye, a full rich flavour to make it appeal to those who preferred a stronger beer, and a pronounced hop character to please everyone! This concept obviously worked as sales have increased markedly year on year. Shropshire Gold now makes up over half the production of the brewery and is listed as the house beer in at least 40 local outlets, a testimony to a consistent product and a keen price.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a pale golden ale with bitter pine and caramel flavours, sweet toffee, biscuit and bitterness on the finish. Superb considering the low ABV.

Cask @ Akkurat. Pours golden, only slightly hazy, with a finger high white head. Grape and orange notes in aroma. Taste is malt dominated and somewhat sour (!?) with notes of citrus and with heavy good tasting notes of orange. Low carbonation. Quite smooth.

Cask at Angleterre, Helsinki. Slightly hazy golden to copper color. Flowery, fruity, nutty and slightly citrusy aroma. Nutty and fruity taste with toffee and apple skin. Nutty and bitter finish. Smooth light body, very drinkable. Very tasty, especially considering the ABV.

Cask@wagonandhorses, oldbury. Gold coloured medium head excellent pacing. Aroma of sweet Malts. Taste is of grapefruit, like a very mild ipa. Bitter finish that turns into an aftertaste. A very good bitter that is easy to drink.

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker Street ’Spoons. Great looks, superbly clean golden blonde. Aroma is creamy and dusty hops. Well balanced in the mouth with a lick of sweetness and a distinct dusty hoppy finish. Palate was almost a 4 it’s just slightly sticky. I like this brewery.
