The colour of an eclipse, the aroma is of char, chocolate & roasted malts and then the flavour of pine & citrus ascends over the palate, bringing the full bodied finish to a dizzying height.

(Bottle): Pours very dark brown, medium off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, citrus, chocolate. Some sweet fruity notes balanced by a bitter dark chocolate flavour and roasted malt. Some hops present but not enough to be a big impact. Nice but lacking.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2014 Bottle. Dark brown close to black with a medium sized tan head. Green hoppy, citrus, soapy with roasted malt, chocolate and cocoa in the back, light candle wax. Light warming, a little bit salty. Medium body, oily/creamy texture, soft carbonation, medium sweet and bitter, pleasant and really easy drinking. Finishes dry with a long finish. Nice one.

Bottle shared with Mr_H a very dark opquae ale with roasted malt with burnt wood tand tar flavour has sone light citrus peel fruity and hoppy taste but flavour is short lived and lacks longevity and depth decent but not the best Black ipa

Bottle from Brewtique, Macclesfield. Dark muddy brown with thin quickly dying beige head. Hoppy aroma. Flavour is hoppy, not enough malt character for me. Not bad though.

Scopey (9998) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 5, 2014
Bottle from The Wine Cellar. It pours cloudy black with a medium light tan head. The nose tangerine, peach, floral, Parma violets, sherbet, roasted malt and toast. The taste is bitter, roasty, earth, toast, cocoa, citrus peel, cocoa, charred wood, dark fruits and pepper with light alcohol warmth and a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good, rich body. Nice hoppy stout action from Salopian.

Bottle from Appleyard’s Deli in Shrewsbury. Pours mahogany with a good tan head. Plenty of flavour in the one. Bitter sweet with notes of burnt toast, red fruits, pine and citrus. Not sure it all fits together as well as you might like.

cold coffee with fluffy ashen head. Pithy citrus nose. Rounded body, some toasty malts and chocolate notes, medium bitterness but missing the immediate fruity hop hit of the beat BIPAs.

Very dark brown, foolishly vibrant beige head dissipating to mouldy and film. Rich, malty ash and sweet sultananess to the nose, no guided Black IPA juiciness. Tea stained bitterness initially, cheap choc and wet cardboard. Soily and oily mouthfeel, Peppery enough at times. Finish is weirdly bitter, firey Kola Nut but a weird aniseed roughness and milky over brewed espresso linger. Enough to keep me entertained for a while but a flat Black IPA.,

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a dark brown beer with a slight sour red fruity and chocolate flavour, nutty roasted notes and a creamy vanilla and oak finish. Very nice indeed.

Bottle, courtesy of kermis and jmgreenuk. Black, brownish pour with a small off white head on top. Aroma is spicy hops with touches of citrus and licorice. Typical aroma of a Black IPA, very nice. Flavor is light bitter with soft malty touches. Long, lingering bitter finish. Nice one!
