3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask @ The King’s Highway, Inverness 111011
Chestnut brown, very thin off white head, clear.
Very light aroma of citrus hops and roasted malt.
Taste of citrus grapefruit and lemon hops, not intense like other black IPAs, underlying roasted malt, well balanced if somewhat subtle.
Palate - citrusy tangy finish wit a bit of roasted malt....lingering powdery cocoa bitterness...smooth.....soft carb...medium texture.
Overall - Seems to be brewed to introduce Black IPA to newbies - a weaker flavoured version, but still a reasonably good beer.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Cask at the Friendship, Fallowfield. Very dark brown with a thick tan head leaving good lacing. Very little, if any, aroma. Not much in the way of flavour, either, some caramel and a little roast malt. Too sweet in the finish. Very uninspired.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted this in The Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in September 2011. Cask, handpump dispense. Mahogany black in colour with a thin off white head. Sweet hedgerow berry fruit in the short aroma. Thick creamy mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts gives a mix of treacle fudge and ripe juicy brambles. Slight hop flowers present in the bitter dry aftertaste. Finish is fruity with dry woody notes. A cracking example of a traditional old ale and highly recommended.

Cask @ The Henglers Circus JDW. Mild roasted caramel aroma. Very dark brown colour, reasonable head. Sweet roasted toffee hop flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A lot less intense than an American Black IPA but quite enjoyable.

Cask at Holloway Wetherspoons. Black coloured with a hint of red when held up to the light. Small beige head. Aroma is creamy malt with a bit of citrus hop. Medium bodied. Taste slightly bitter. Solid but unspectacular black IPA, have had better and have had worse.
