12th July 2012
Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark brown beer. Residual pale tan head. Smooth palate, very low carbonation. A little bit of dark malt. Mild mild piney hops. Trace of red berry. Finishes neutral. Inoffensive but seems a bit tired.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at The Old Fountain Beer Festival. Pours clearish brown with a creamy, off-white film. Light citrus hops and roasted malts on the nose. Not to much IPA-ness in the flavor, and only moderate roast. Lightly bready and lightly bitter. Nicely balanced. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Nice finish, with some malty sugars, light drying and some citrusy, semi-sticky bitters. Good, but drinks a bit more like a mild or ESB, just a touch sweeter. Nice beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask at the Euston Tap, thanks to Rilester for the tip off, 19/03/14.
Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed light beige head, good lacing ensues.
Nose is floral hops, light tropical notes, perfumed twang, rose hip.
Taste comprises more floral notes, Turkish Delight, light roast, hint of tropicana, a little hoppage.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, light bitter linger at the close.
Looks and feels the part but doesn’t really tick the boxes for this style at the business end of things, just not hoppy or bitter enough. That said it’s an inoffensive easy drinking affair and better than a fair amount of the twig water I’ve encountered in recent months!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask conditioned at The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton, London. Dark brown with off white head. The roasted malt flavours are definitely there, maybe a little thin, but charred husk notes and chocolate, however; I didn’t get the hops very much, there wasn’t the prominence I was expecting. A touch disappointing.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask, shared with mr-h at Bow Bar. A rustic tint to a very dark coloured body. Low, beige layer at the surface. Mid-sweet, roasted malts on the nose. Malts of chocolate and caramel dominate the taste character with distant fruity hops beneath. Rounded, mild malt-fruity finish. Easy to drink and quite pleasing (pub crawl in Edinburgh 09.08.2013).
