A cracking pint in the Victoria Durham, almost black, creamy head not too bitter in taste, lasting after taste, all in all excellent.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Winchester Beer Festival. Initially the aromas suggested a mild: quite smoky and dark, however in taste this had the bittterness and alcoholic tang of an IPA. Interesting and very drinkable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at The Old Fountain Beer Festival. Pours clearish brown with a creamy, off-white film. Light citrus hops and roasted malts on the nose. Not to much IPA-ness in the flavor, and only moderate roast. Lightly bready and lightly bitter. Nicely balanced. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Nice finish, with some malty sugars, light drying and some citrusy, semi-sticky bitters. Good, but drinks a bit more like a mild or ESB, just a touch sweeter. Nice beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
From cask at the Euston Tap on 13 April 2011. Looks like Saltaire have added this to their regular portfolio, which is good to see. Dark brown colour. Creamy head. Fairly aromatic hop profile - some fruity grapefruit and pineapple elements - with a light, roasty malt backdrop. Mellow, but quite firm, mouthfeel. Finishes distinctly dry. Very easy drinking. Maybe a little underpowered - I could, and would be happy to, drink plenty of this but it doesn’t quite have the punch of the more assertive examples of the style.

cask jdw dewsbury. V dark red colour good off white head and lacing. Aroma is red fruits and malts. Taste is similar sweet mild bitterness. Medium body soft carbonated. This was decent but no where near enough hops to call a true black IPA decent session stuff low abv.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask pint at Old Fountain. Clear deep refractive chestnut with a lasting decent mottled frothy beige head. Light aroma, just hints of dry resin, light cereal toasty grain and a wisp of cocoa. The taste follows but delivers more - nice roast/resin balance, some alcohol, frankly one of the most drinkable black IPAs I have had - light-bodied, a bit still, fairly quick-finishing, but leaves a pleasant after-linger.
