Cask conditioned at The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton, London. Dark brown with off white head. The roasted malt flavours are definitely there, maybe a little thin, but charred husk notes and chocolate, however; I didn’t get the hops very much, there wasn’t the prominence I was expecting. A touch disappointing.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2015. Bottled and drunk on the train home. Dark brown black beer. Chocolate aroma. Chocolate and lime flavour in the mouth. Decent chocolate not too roasted. Likeable.

Cask at Pi, Altrincham. Near black shade. Nice head, lace. Can’t fault the appearance. Roasted malt and grape fruitiness in the aroma. Taste is a step down. Seems very lacking in hop flavour and bitterness. Soft subdued roasty taste instead. Bit of a let down.

Black beer with a thin bubbly head. Light malt aroma but the flavour is more balanced with a fruity sweetness. Aftertaste is where the strength comes through.

At the NWAF Manchester 2012. Will have to try this again as I’m sure it was in bad condition. Muddy dark brown, no head. Some roasted malts but very little hops coming through. Thin palate.

Cask (Fitzgeralds, Sunderland) - Dark brown in colour. Pine, roasted malt and coffee in the aroma. Roasted and slightly soapy taste with notes of hops, liquorice and fudge.

Cask at the Euston Tap, thanks to Rilester for the tip off, 19/03/14.
Dark chestnut brown with a well appointed light beige head, good lacing ensues.
Nose is floral hops, light tropical notes, perfumed twang, rose hip.
Taste comprises more floral notes, Turkish Delight, light roast, hint of tropicana, a little hoppage.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, light bitter linger at the close.
Looks and feels the part but doesn’t really tick the boxes for this style at the business end of things, just not hoppy or bitter enough. That said it’s an inoffensive easy drinking affair and better than a fair amount of the twig water I’ve encountered in recent months!

Med brown. Aroma is basically toasty. Light, toasty character. Not much hop. Bit of nutty sweetness in the finish. Decent brown ale, but nothing cascadian.

Cask @ London Drinker Beer Festival 2014. Pours nice and dark with roasted malts, teasing pine and bitter hops. Not mindblowing but drinkable nonetheless.

Cask graviity at The london drinker beer fest. 2014. Brown colour with red hues, stodgy loose off white head. Aroma is some hot alcohol, berry, earthy pine hop and a touch of roast. Flavour comprises of rubber, roast, earthy pine hops, English yeast esters. Some hot alcohol in the flavour as well. Served too warm. Solid dirty bitterness. Medium full body, lowish carbonation.
