Cask, JDW, Carlisle. Beautiful burnished gold appearance and a very clean white head makes for a very good start and it just gets better. A creamy, honeyed mouthfeel leads into great tangy bitterness that dances over the tongue. Great fresh flavour, citrus dryness in the finish, touch of orange and peach to round off. Saltaire come up trumps yet again.

The Baron, 21/05/11 and 22/05/11. Pale dusted gold with a fine white collar lacing intricately. Fresh rubbed hopcone citrus on nose; mouldering tangerine and musky resins. Bright tangerine hop balanced with wafers and honey, peanut oiliness and husk. Dribble of lychee as it warms. Clean and highly sessionable with glimpses of excellence.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white head. Managed to grab this and get a prime spot by a big picture window, watching the workers hustle home after another 8 hours of their lives had disappeared, just like mine, and then I relaxed. There is a good hop impact on a light, fruity, malty body, some sharp grapefruit zest, tangy and refreshing, the perfect beer to unwind with. The grind had finished for another day and I got transported to a better place just by drinking a beer.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Clear, yellow-gold with a modest, foam head. Sugary straw on the nose. Quite sweet, biscuity malts, lemon, honey, lightly hoppy. Light bodied with delicate carbonation. Sweet, sun-baked straw and malts on the finish, some mild grass and citrus. Really good stuff.
