It took 2 years of brewing, tasting and testing to come up with the final recipe for Sam Adams Light. We focused on brewing a flavorful, high quality beer with a light-bodied taste and fewer calories. Sam Adams Light is a unique beer, it’s not a lighter version of our Boston Lager. Sam Adams Light is the only light beer that uses no adjuncts and a traditional brewing process to ensure a balance of flavor and light-bodied taste. No other domestic light beer uses only the four classic ingredients of beer: pure water, lager yeast, Noble hops and barley malt. The quality ingredients that make up Sam Adams Light include two-row malt and some of the most expensive hops in the world, Spalt Spalter Noble hops. At 128 calories, Sam Adams Light features a clean finish and no aftertaste.

"for a light beer, one of the best, but that’s not really saying that much. None of the bad qualities that typically infiltrate the cheaper light beers, it’s just a thinner, less exciting version of their flagship beer."

Aroma of malt, copper color short last creamy white head. Sweet malt taste, with a creamy feel and a weak malt finish

Generically fine. I guess I prefer this to the BL,CL,MLs of the world, but really it is just about as nondescript as they get. Coppery appearance. Usual malty lager profile. Bready. Watery.

Transfer from BA review on 2-25-13 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – The beer pours an amber color with a one finger white head. The head fades relatively fast to leave only a light amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of caramel and roasted malt mixed with lighter floral and citrus notes. Taste – The taste starts out of caramel malt mixed with a corn like taste. As the taste advances some hints of hop flavor come to the tongue. The hop is of a more herbal and citrus in nature and in the end with the caramel flavor leave a mainly sweet kind of herbal like taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The beer is on the thinner side with respects to body with a carbonation level that is on the slightly standard side. Both make for a rather refreshing taste and are appropriate for the style. Overall – A tastier version of a light beer with more hop and malt characteristic for the “light” lager style. While nothing to pine over it is rather refreshing.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2014 Very light and rather watery, but very clean and refreshing. As light beers go this is pretty good.

Tastes like a basic light lager. Better than most light beers, but still not very good.

355ml bottle from a gas station in Calais, ME. Coppery colour surprising for a light beer, looks like a thinner Boston Lager. Smells like a real lager more than a light, some light caramel malt. Actually tastes like beer. Tiny bit of bitterness on the finish. Thinnish body. Overall, a watered Boston Lager, so better than macro lights for sure.

Okay, so here’s a "light" beer that’s intended to be light and a unique tasting experience. It has a nice caramel body with minimal carbonation and a modest bit of light beige head. Aroma is murky hoppiness. Flavour is a decent malty affair with a watery finish. Certainly better than other "light" beers but not really particularily good.

It’s a light beer so my expectations are low. Still, it is better that the bud/miller/coors lights of the world. The flavor is generic enough that it’s challenging to describe.

bottle. Pale golden with small head. Tastes like a basic light lager, but a bit more flavor. Better than Bud Light and similar beers, but still not very good.
