COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It took 2 years of brewing, tasting and testing to come up with the final recipe for Sam Adams Light. We focused on brewing a flavorful, high quality beer with a light-bodied taste and fewer calories. Sam Adams Light is a unique beer, it’s not a lighter version of our Boston Lager. Sam Adams Light is the only light beer that uses no adjuncts and a traditional brewing process to ensure a balance of flavor and light-bodied taste. No other domestic light beer uses only the four classic ingredients of beer: pure water, lager yeast, Noble hops and barley malt. The quality ingredients that make up Sam Adams Light include two-row malt and some of the most expensive hops in the world, Spalt Spalter Noble hops. At 128 calories, Sam Adams Light features a clean finish and no aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours that watery golden thats standard for light beer. Light Beer has a purpose. When you have to go to the light stuff, this packs the most flavor of any that I’ve had. Drink, but not too often.

Poured a dark copper color with a short white head that created average lacing. The aroma was malty with some lighter floral notes. The flavor was light malt, flowers and thin citrus. The mouthfeel was bad. Fizzy, tight carbonation and thin body.

Bottle (12oz). Bright coppery-amber pour, clear, with a large fizzy-foamy off-white head - frankly, that looks pretty good (3+). Smells like a clean, crisp lager, without the adjunct nastiness - even a hint of grassiness and light roast. The taste is ... somewhat disappointing - a little like kiddies’ wading pool water with some grass clippings left to bake in the sun all day - some plastic, but no corn. Light body, decently lively on the tongue - crisp, but the mild plastic lingers after the quick finish. Not horrible - I suspect on tap this might be reasonably solid, if boring.

I really wanted to like these but I am just not a fan of the style. For what it is it is quite good but, again, Light beer is just not my thing.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2011 Started drinking this one early. From what I remember it was flavorful and smooth. The darkest light beer I have ever had also. 4.0
RE-RATE 2/14/11 Bottle. Right off the bat I can tell you this beer does not appear like any other Premium Lager I’ve seen before. It is much darker and much more appealing. The color is a clear copper orange with a foamy white head. There is lots of carbonation emanating from the base of the glass.

The aroma is light and grainy with a slight bit of sweetness and metal. I’m not really detecting many, if any hops in this.

The flavor is slightly dry, with big sweet grains over the tongue. There is a slight tingle, but only a small one. It finishes with a small bitterness that comes from the dry grains. Perhaps the light use of hops can create this feeling as well.

Not bad at all for a light beer. Watery, but all light beers are is beer + water (and sometimes the original beer is damned close to water itself). This has a little bit of a thing some American macro-brewers have never heard of called HOPS. They’re a pretty decent thing to add to a beer, believe it or not. Amber color, white head. Drinkable.

copper colored, medium white head, nicely lacy. malty, touch of grain in nose. sweet malt with a trace of hops in the flavor. medium bodied, dry finish. a good light beer, which is to say much too mild to be a good beer.

I’m not one for light beers, but this was surprising good. Little aroma ( as is typical of light beers), clear color and crisp flavor. Some and hops are detectable. Clean finish. Overall, a good representation of a light beer, especially since it was done without the use of rice adjuncts.
