JB175 (1306), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 2, 2008 This is an exciting beer for me since this guy is from my hometown of Lombard, IL! - a beer non-entity (until recently when a Rock Bottom (Yorktown) opened up. So its with pride and excitement that I celebrate one of the Lilac Village’s own making the big time with this brew. Nice looking cloudy brown with a medium head. Aroma is big, sweet, and inviting - lots of banana, clove, and rich wheat. Flavor is a bit sweet, a bit spicy - cloves and banana/dark fruit dominate. I’m also getting alot of real wheat here. Not my favorite W-bock, but a solid take on the style that I should grab more of before its gone.
csbosox (956), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Aug 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Wow, this smells pretty good! Rich and spicy with cloves, dark fruit and banana. There is a floral aspect as well. Dark copper color with a one fingered, off-white head, gentle carbonation, and lots of clinging foam. Sediment is visible in the bottle. The taste is dark fruits, spice, cocoa, appropriate alcohol, and some banana bread at the finish. The finish is flavorful, but well balanced and very drinkable. Rich, full mouthfeel. What a wonderful beer, Rodney was very much deserving of this award. It strikes a balance in all aspects, the clove and fruitiness from the yeast is present but not overpowering, the same can be said for the malt character and really every other part of the beer. Prymal (5), Kennewick, Washington, USA does not count Aug 4, 2008 I picked up a bottle this weekend at 99 Bottles on Auburn, WA. It poured kind of a merky muddy brown with for me No Head. though once swirled in the glass built a nice tan head. It feels very smooth creamy which was quite pleasent. This is my first Weizen Bock and i enjoyed it emensely. phishpond417 (1231), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours a cloudy caramel colour with a large tan head. Aroma is somewhat sweet, caramel, and nutty. Flavor is heavier, with an evident creamy wheat like mouthfeel. it was a decent beer, but i expected way more. JMerritt (1105), Macomb, Illinois, USA Aug 1, 2008 Very hazy, murky brown in color with a small light-brown head that falls to a thin ring. Aroma of caramelized banana, toffee, sweet wheat and walnuts. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavor with caramel and herbal hops and a nutty finish. Very light alcohol detected in the aftertaste. Still, a fantastic offering - Boston Beer Co. would be foolish to not produce this regularly, or at least seasonally. tomthompson89 (1062), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2008 Good but not as good as i expected, with the percentile, murky brown color, decnt off white head, nose is clove, banana. flavor is sweet, some alcohol bite, clove flavor. decent finish but still kinda a let down
