valpoaj (288), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Mar 24, 2008 Happily snagged up a single of this as I really wanted to avoid the grape PA that came in the sixer. Pours a deep mahogany with a thin head that is as persistent as any I’ve seen in some time...there’s a film on the top of your beer from start to finish! Aroma is sweet and wonderfully tantalizing...lots of malt character with underlying spices, banana, and some bubble gum. Flavor lives up to the aroma, and then some! Tons of banana, wheat, clove, some nutmeg (and maybe some cinnamon), all on top of a great sweet malt and wheat base...this is seriously what a Weizenbock should be! No let down on the palate either...nice and creamy while stopping short of being overly heavy and a burden to drink. Wow, Sam Adams better sign this up for the long haul...although I’m far from trying most of their brews, this one is definitely near or at the top of the list of those I have tried...great effort...now, sell six packs of just this beer please!
bruno1378 (108), Epping, New Hampshire, USA Aug 23, 2008 Poured a cloudy brown. Definitely smell of clove. Was pretty good, until a fly landed in it. Thankfully was almost done so he didn’t get much of it. doubleo (751), San Diego, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours sludgy brown with a creamy offwhite head, good lace. Smells of bready malt, clove and sweet spices. Tastes bready malty and spicy sweet, fruity with a bit of pepper. Medium body, good carbonation. csbosox (971), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Aug 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Wow, this smells pretty good! Rich and spicy with cloves, dark fruit and banana. There is a floral aspect as well. Dark copper color with a one fingered, off-white head, gentle carbonation, and lots of clinging foam. Sediment is visible in the bottle. The taste is dark fruits, spice, cocoa, appropriate alcohol, and some banana bread at the finish. The finish is flavorful, but well balanced and very drinkable. Rich, full mouthfeel. What a wonderful beer, Rodney was very much deserving of this award. It strikes a balance in all aspects, the clove and fruitiness from the yeast is present but not overpowering, the same can be said for the malt character and really every other part of the beer. Prymal (5), Kennewick, Washington, USA does not count Aug 4, 2008 I picked up a bottle this weekend at 99 Bottles on Auburn, WA. It poured kind of a merky muddy brown with for me No Head. though once swirled in the glass built a nice tan head. It feels very smooth creamy which was quite pleasent. This is my first Weizen Bock and i enjoyed it emensely. phishpond417 (1418), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 Pours a cloudy caramel colour with a large tan head. Aroma is somewhat sweet, caramel, and nutty. Flavor is heavier, with an evident creamy wheat like mouthfeel. it was a decent beer, but i expected way more.
