COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams American Kriek: The intense black cherry character in this beer comes from Balaton cherries, which were discovered in Hungary and are now grown in Michigan. These special cherries are prized for their depth of flavor. The tartness from the cherries is balanced by a rich, malty character with toasted oak notes added from the barrel aging.

Definitely more of a fruit beer (as listed here) than a true kriek, although there is a bit of tartness. Kind of similar to Founders Cerise. Not overwhelmingly sweet but the cherries also just arenít as robust as in Belgian Red.

Sampled from the tap at EBF. Poured a clear ruby with an amber her with a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was a bit underwhelming with a light slightly tart cherry note. Flavor started with cherry that grew into a medium tartness and ended with a hint of acid. Nice light body.

Pouring at the Saturday sessions of EBF. Pours a just clear red to orange with a thin white head. Cherry, soft cherry cough drops. Sweet, big cherry, lots of soft cherries, and malt. Sweet and chewy, very light acid. Long cherry finish.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a clear deep red, claret would be the term I believe, with a 1/2" pink head that quickly disappears. Aroma is sour cherry with a hint of spice. Flavor is the same with the addition of a nice yeasty flavor. Almost Belgian. Moderate bodied with a nice tartness.

at dakís 7/29/10. clear reddish auburn brown with a filmy white head. the nose has a bunch of cherry in it... along with cinnamon (fruit not yeast) and buttery grain. the flavor is the same only watered down. it lacks any complexity and it feels out of balance. the body is medium though it has a ton of fizzy carbonation... yet it falls flat on the tongue. weird. not a terrible fruit beer but it is an awful kriek... 5/3/5/2/10/2.5

A - Pours a nice deep and clear red color with a nice amount of reddish head (about 2-3 fingers). Nice lacing left behind. S - Mostly sweet and strong cherry aroma that dominates the smell. A little bit of oak taste mixed in. T - There is a lot of cherry flavor in this beer. Very nice and sweet flavor overall. A little tart but overall a very sweet beer. A little bit of oak flavor mixed in, similar to the smell. M - Little carbonation and overall very smooth. Fairly full bodied, but a little dull on the tongue. D - The flavors are very strong, but the beer is very well balanced. It is a bit full, but still very drinkable due to the tartness.

A-pours a nice reddish color with some orange hues. lots of thin bubbly off white head wih hints of pink. S-the nose is slightly off, notes of cherries but somewhat artificial with hints of selzer in the back and a touch of wood. T-the taste has a fair bit of cherry in it, somewhat artificial but not offensive. hints of wood but also a slightly medicinal metallic flavor. M-light body, clean and soft with an assrtive carbonation balanced by a a nice lightly dry crisp finish. D-a little artificial but still easily drank. nice oak presence but hints of medicinal flavor in there. tough style to nail and valiant effort.

Pored into a snifter. Color is Deep red with good frothy head. Great lacing that follows til the end. Nose is a simple Black Cherry. Taste like sweet tarts yet with NO sugar... natural sweetness. Has a clean tartness that leaves you wanting more. the finish is crisp and refreshing, leaves a very wet mouth feel. I was pleasantly surprised by this and would buy it again.... one of the best fruit beers Iíve had. Batch 1040. Shared the bottle with AirForceHops.

bright red, lasting pink head. Metallic sweet cherry, light sugar. Heavily carbonated, syrupy cherry, lightly medicinal and a bit light rochefort 10 in the selzer quality. Odd, fizzy empty finish. Overly sweet, oddly conflicted.

Poured into a tulip. 4.0 A: Hazy dark amber mahogany color. Two and a half fingers of fairly creamy reddish-beige head with average retention and a small ring of lacing. 3.5 S: This one isnít what I was expecting. Oak is the strongest aroma. Slightly tart cherries next, but not nearly as strong as Iíd like. Not complex at all and not even close to funky enough to be the style it claims it is. 3.0 T: Really strange medicinal/artificial taste to this one. Itís both dry and sweet at the same time. No mouth puckering, this isnít even as tart as the cherries it came from. Woodiness is strong again. 2.5 M: Lighter body. For as much carbonation as it appears to have, this lies dead on the tongue. Not creamy at all and astringent aftertaste. 2.5 D: I wish the bottle wasnít so big or so expensive. This beer pretty much sucks. Not really anything good about it.
