COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red: This unique brew defies traditional beer style definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong salty cheeses.

Bottle shared at Slutfest 3, Richmond, VA, 4/21/12. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a thin creamy white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of tart cherries, earthy and herbal notes. The taste is tart cherries, berries, earth and a vegetal note. Medium bodied. Nice.

Sampled at Slutfest 3.Wow, this is actually really a nice surprise fromn sam adams. Pleasant kriek qualities. Lightly tart cherry nose. More impressive that it is from these guys. Nice cherries.

Bottle@ SF. Medium brown with sudsy head. Smells like a mix between sour apple and watermelon jolly ranchers. Porter sour, would get an even higher rating if the sour held on and didn’t give way to sweet. Dry finish. Good for a Sam Adams.

poured into a tulip, amber color, small of white head, light carbonation. sweet and sticky well balanced by the sourness and oak. the oak is suble and enjoyable. the alchohol is atrong but not over bearing. me and hammer made easy work of this treat direct from the brewery tour.

$9.99 for a 25 oz. bottle from my local Shaw’s Supermarket. Snifter show’s a brown with red hues for color, with light retention and mild spotty lace. The nose was mildly tart cherries and some real weak barrel aromas. Tart cherry and caramel malt flavor with a light hop bitterness and spice. Oak notes show up as well. Has a plum or prune like finish. I’m not an expert of this style. (and drink only once in awhile) however , it seems to be nice example. More on the Flemish side which I like.

Sour ales are still a little out of my palate range meaning that I’m sure I dont appreciate them the way they deserve. This was very good with the Christmas ham and some spicy cheeses. Liquor or wine like in its finish. Nice oaky smoothness.

Bottle. Murky reddish brown pour, with off-white head. Lightly tart fruit, wood, some sweet caramel malt, and light sour cherry. Fairly one dimensional, meh.

Pours a murky brownish orange color with a white ring of head. Aroma is certainly sour and tart. Woody notes and sour cherries also fill the nose. Flavor is malty with only a hint of sourness. Just a but tart with a dry flavor that leaves a large tingle over the palate.

Hump day brew. Pours reddish brown with thin soapy head. Nose is funky and fruity. Tastes pretty tart of cherries, oak, earth, hint of vanilla. I’m liking this barrel aged series.

25oz bottle. Pours out a darker red hue, decent white head. Aromas are the best part of this one, earthy and tart, seems full bodied. Too bad the palate doesn’t impress. The flavor is really weak, some fruit and tartness, but its barely noticable. Finish is dry, but really a middle of the road sour at best.
