3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours brownish red, mostly clear, with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is pleasantly sour (ie: fairly understated, but there), with notes of oak, mustard, cherry, slight vinegar, slight vanilla, and subtle bourbon (?). Flavor starts slightly tart in a vinegar and mustard way but quickly adapts to cherry, oak, vanilla, slight toffee, and mushroomy funk. Finishes pretty drying and slightly bitter with oak, mushroom, cheese and ash. Medium-heavy bodied, and despite being kinda thin for 9%, I’m not surprised by the body. The lack of detectable heat is nice though. This is better than I expected from Sam Adams. I’m glad to say they can do a sour that at least competes with Goudenband and Duchesse de Bourgogne.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by Minderbinder, thanks man! Pours a medium brown with no head and no lacing. Nose is of alcohol, caramel. Taste is of cherries, lightly tart with more caramel. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and there is a little raw alcohol. Overall I thought it was OK but uninspiring, could have been a lot better if it was more fruit-forward.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Rehills, Newastle. A hazy dark red coloured beer that pours with a quickly disappearing white head. It has a rich, spicy cherry and vanilla flavour, oak and zesty fruity notes followed by almond and sherry on the smooth finish. Excellent!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 750ml corked. An unclear, dark reddish to light brown beer with a dense, light beige head. The aroma is fruity and lightly vinegarish, with prunes, some faint notes of caramel chocolate. It’s medium to full-bodied, tart and nicely carbonated, with flavors of dried fruits doing most of the manual labour. Some generic fruityness and a faint vinegar touch too. Lasting finish with prunes dominating. A nice one indeed, but it lacks depth and complexity. 150609

Complex nose of malt, spices and whiskey. Murky brown. Big heavy body with a massive sweet malt taste. Too sweet times but with some tartness to balance it out. Alcohol throughout. Big beer.
