COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red: This unique brew defies traditional beer style definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong salty cheeses.

Purchased at Sam Adams Brewery in Boston. Pours a hazy red, minimal head and almost nonexistent lacing. Strong Fruity aroma. Full flavored, again strong a fruity on the pallet. A fine sipping beer, particularly on a cold winter night. I enjoyed the beer but it isn’t exactly my cup of tea.

Not really a sour, it does have good almost spice that works with the woody oak tones.

The aroma from this thing is deceiving to say the least. Great aroma, very vibrant belgian style. What you actually get is closer to a cheap sparkling wine. They say this was aged in a barrel but it left me wondering "for how long, five minutes?". Not worth the price, there’s so many better beers in the same style for less money.

25.4 fl oz / 750mL corked and caged large bottle into a tulip glass. Served cool. Aroma: Berries. Dark red fruits, but mostly raspberry. Slight alcoholic smell. Jam. Appearance: Dark, translucent ruby. No real head on it, but it is quite handsome. Taste: Exceptionally fruity. Tart and jammy. Mild boozy flavor. This one is all jam, with a hint of spice throughout. Palate: Full bodied, but doesn’t feel heavy. Rich. Flavors linger a bit. Overall: More jammy than what I was expecting. Quite a unique beer. I don’t know that it’s one of my all-time favorites, but I appreciate its uniqueness. Delightful treat.

Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a medium brown color with a medium sized soapy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was tartish and savory with a vague odd spices, an herbal presence and was a touch medicinal. The flavor was tartish and fruity with notes of caramel, a hint of vinegar, toasted nut, vague herbal notes and almost a medicinal element. Medium length finish of fruit and herbs. Medium body. Interesting.

unclear brown small offwhite head. aroma is mild, sweet caramelly, malty. flavor is wood, sweet malty notes, faint fruity notes, in fact a pretty complicated and complex beer, but with a rather unsiohustucated taste profile. good sour and wood play.

Poured from 750ml into snifter. Aroma: Sour tart with woody notes Appearance: Dark red/Brown, Slow bubbles rising from bottom of glass into foamy tan head that dissipates quickly. Taste: sour and bitter, maybe somewhat salty. Palate: Medium bodied sticky texture with slight carbonation. short astringent finish Overall: The Aroma was pleasant and the taste and palate were fit to the style. Not sure if I would buy this one again but definitely something to try. Resembled Rodenbach Flanders red.

This is a good example of how the style should be done. Very well balanced. Nice tart fruit and alcohol aroma. Cool red-copper color. Smooth finish with a little tartness that makes the mouth pucker but not unnesecarily so. Dry finish. Good level of carbonation. Taste was tart fruit, spiciness up front, small amount of oak, Belgian yeast and alcohol. Really good at the end of the day.

This was liquid mulch. GROSS. Very sweet and oaky. We all felt like $10 wasted.

Extremely effervescent, the head is crackling loud like soda. Color is dark red with brown hues. Aroma is dark grape, black cherry, and cranberry. There is a slight alcohol scent along with yeast present. Taste is tart and sweet. There is presence of grape, strawberry and banana flavors. Palate holds the sweet tart flavors. Mouthfeel is light but not watery. The feel also reminds me of, plus taste, of a black cherry soda. That comes from the high carbonation.
