Reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is tart fruit with slight mustiness. Flavor is tartness mellowed by some oak malt. Smooth finish with lingering tart fruit like baked sour apples.

Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry fruity, oak, red berries, grass, caramel malts, alcohol, paint. Taste is mild fruity, red berries, grass, oak, berry skin, sugar, paint, caramel malts. Little bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough. Just very impotent as a wild beer, or rather a Flemish red ale in my opinion, totally stripped for any sour tartness...

Purchased at Shaw’s in Saco, Maine on a trip there. Has a great creamy mocha head with lacing all-around. Dark brown, cola-looking brew. Well-blended flavours between the roasted malts and sourness. Smells sweet, sour and roasted, reminding me of wine. Overall, not too crazy sour, as the roastiness takes care of business. Alcohol well-hidden, lots of character. Goes down very-well !

Appearance- Pours a deep red color with a two finger off white head. The head fades rather quickly and leaves a light amount of lacing.
Smell – The smell is of fruit with strong sour and vinegar notes. The fruit is of dark fruits with cherry being the strongest. The sour is of a fruity nature of (more) cherry, cranberry and some sour apple. These fruit aromas a mixed with a vinegary smell giving it an even more sour and slightly bitter aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with notes of a drier cherry with a moderate dose of sour fruit flavors. As the taste advances it sweetens some toward the middle. With the sweeter flavors are some notes of cinnamon and oak. While it sweetens in the middle more toward the end an apple and cherry fruity sour and vinegary flavor come to the taste. These dry out some of the sweetness and leave a more sour fruit flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the drier and is average in terms of creaminess. The carbonation of the beer is on the medium side, which with the body, compliment the more sour flavors of the brew.
Overall – A fairly nice sour. Not mouth puckering like some, but it had a nice balance between sour and sweet/malty. While the Belgian sour is not really my style, I believe Sam does a nice job with this one. Give it a go.

Oh yeah baby, I really like this one. Aroma of sour cherries and plum with a hint of oak. Reddish mahogany pour with little head and no lacing, quite normal for the style. This would be considered an Oud Bruin in Belgium, and a nice one at that. Tart flavor dominates but is not excessive, well balanced by the malt, giving the impression of dark sour cherries and a vinous character (tannins). Medium bodied, thin texture, lively carbonation, and sour finish. An excellent representation of the style and worth repeating. The 9% abv packs a punch but isn’t noticeable in the flavor. I used to associate Sam Adams with generic American beers in the old days but they have really raised the bar recently with their barrel room collection.

1.5 year old bottle. Translucent almost-red color, no lacing, little head fades to a ring. Nice aroma, sour but muted. The taste is good, and I agree with the description for the most part - it is definitely tart, and I can taste the toasty oak - its age mutes it a bit, but it’s still strong. It’s honestly not my favorite, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Seems like it fits in the red category pretty well, very similar to some Belgian Red’s I’ve had. Clear and reddish and dark with a very nice full lacing / retention. nose is fruity and sour. Lots of funky sour. Palate is sour and red and fruity with a dry dry finish. Oh I like this a lot.

Beer opens lemon scented malt. Light maroon with a lofy head. Taste is an earthy sweet that smoothly transitions to a fruity oak. Palate is smooth but ends overly sweet. A great beer for a great time careful guys its 9% abv

Poured from big bottle. Apple and wine barrel aroma. Good lookin mahogany with no head. I have to say at this point that I am not a fan of sours. I taste fermented apple ciders with malt for balance and definite sangria flavors. This I think is a great example of the style.
