4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
THOUGHTS: Really nice. Not as sour as I was hoping for, but that actually lets the wood flavors shine more. Hid alcohol very well. Very complex and layered flavors. Constantly evolving flavors and aromas as it warmed.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a fairly clear, dark, brownish red with bright red highlights and beautiful carbonation. It also had an average, off-white head that mostly diminished. The aroma contained light to moderate caramel and nutty malts; hints of chocolate and roasted malts; light to moderate spicy and funky yeast; apple; cherry; lots of wood; dark fruit; and sour fruit. The initial flavor was moderately sour slightly sweet and acidic; while the finish was heavily sour, lightly sweet and slightly acidic with a fairly long duration. There was wood, sour and dark fruit, apples, cherry, roasted malt, caramel malt, hints of chocolate, slight hints of alcohol. The medium body was fairly dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry and moderately astringent finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. Brown with small head. Tart cherry and vinegar notes, oaky. Missing some of the underlying malt sweetness that I’ve enjoyed from other Belgian reds. ABV is well hidden.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours deep deep ruby with a thin white head. Aroma is boozy cherries and Grapes. A dank, yeasty flavour with a dry finish. Probably not something I’d drink again but it’s ok.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer was one of the few brought up from Buffalo by my sister-in-law. I saw the impressive rating and wanted to see how an American "big" brewery would approach a sour, especially a established Belgian one. The pour looks good, deeps red-brown with almost tan head. The nose says there is something up. I’m getting as much caramel malt as I am getting sharp sour funk, in fact much more caramel. The taste is the same, rich caramel malt, but not sweet, with a decent roasted-ness to it, a little dried fruit, and some of the vinegar bite I would have expected from this style, but just some. Definitely a tasty beer, a weak version of a Flemish red, but if you’re not too hung up on being true to styles an overall nice drink.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
1 pint 9.4 ounce bottle. Poured out a cloudy translucent orange with a short lived amber head. Aroma was dry white grapes like Champaign and the taste followed with a hint of oak and a dry metallic finish. Palate was slick and soapy. Not really my cup of tea, but worth trying.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a reddish amber with fluffy head. Aromas of light vinegar, cherries, and some foeder. Flavors of cherries, a little sweet...wants to be Rodenbach Grand Cru but the sour and foeder fails to show.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to tulip
Light sourness, yeast, some apple and orange, and wood. Transparent red with lots of effervescence which coalesces into a 1 cm, creamy, light tan head. The taste is sour, but very lightly so. Light citrus, similar to grapefruit, but not as sour and I get some woodiness, but not necessarily oak.
