Pours a very dark brown with a moderate head. Interesting notes of sweetness and malts to the nose. In the taste, I get the sweetness from the Belgian style with some slight undertones of chocolate. The oak aging is pervasive throughout the smell and taste, without being overpowering.

Picked up this bottle earlier this year. It’s still on the shelf at my co-op so guess I’ll drink it to see if I want to get another. Enjoyed in a wine goblet.

A - Black in the glass with some brown edges. 2 finger tan head that fades quickly. Decent lacing.

S - Smells like a slightly soured oatmeal stout. Has this flanders red sort of sour scent and hints of oak and lacto. I don’t get any chocolate or coffee on the nose.

T - Taste is a different story. I get some cocoa and mocha taste. Creaminess with some roasted nutty malts. Tehre is some coffee but not much. Finish is very much like a belgian dubbel with hints of bread.

M - 80% carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body and slight tangy finish.

O - The scent made me think this beer was sour. The taste is not. It’s a stout but not a great one.

750 mL bottle from SoHo Organic Market in Elizabeth City, NC. Dark brown pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of dark fruit with hints of dark chocolate. The flavor is mostly that of a Belgian dark ale with predominant flavors of raisin and dark fruits but features an undercurrent of chocolate. As I taste this more the oak comes through adding another level of complexity. Overall, this is a good Belgian-style ale that suffers from a name problem (stout should not be on the label at all).

A deep dark Belgian stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, sweet dark fruits with licorice and molasses, woody notes, light Brett, nice. In mouth, a nice smooth chocolate and plums, Brett, molasses, aniseed, quite nice. Tasted with GRM, Probstblueribbon and Ian, July 20 2012.

Pours a clear not quite opaque reddish dark cola color with a nice full light tan head. Aroma of a farmhouse wild ale. Taste comes through as a mild sour ale with sweet roasted malt character and a bit of chewing tobacco. Very much in the vein of a Flemish ale, and very good, but it ain’t no stout.

Oddly-shaped 1 PT 9.4 FL OZ bottle shared by GRM, served cold in a tulip glass. 20JL12.

App.: Deep-brown-black with a fair mocha head. Aroma: Funky tartness, light wood notes, some molasses/licorice notes, coffee/chocolate notes, the funky/tartness is overpowering, faint esters. Palate: Medium body, fine, limited effervescence, powdery. Flav.: The stout notes come through a little more, still lots of funk, touches of Belgian esters, licorice and molasses, woodsy, a little better; off-dry with fair bitterness and a nice coffee/chocolate finish.

Kinda odd and didn’t work for me.

Pours dark reddish brown with a thick mocha head. Slowly dissipates to a rich with minor lacing. Smell is fruity with some caramel and chocolate. The taste is sour dark fruit and molasses. There is a nice coffee/chocolate in the middle. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. Overall an interesting beer. Great flavors. Worth a try.

Dark black in color, thin tan head. Nice chocolate flavor and rich coffee follwoing. Loved the flavors rich and thick. The Belgian yeast flavors where light this was a super beer. Nice wood aged flavors and light aroma.

Big bottle, cork. Poured a dark brown with ruby tones. Full head. Aroma has dark fruits, beglium candy, yeast, orange, slight cocoa. Cocoa is alot more prominent in the taste. Medium light sweetness taste. Medium to medium heavy body. Creamy palate. Very strong belgium tones. Slight oaked flavors. Dark fruits (raisins). This is very good. Glad to to see Sam representing.
