750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is initially sweet roast, cocoa, dry Belgian character, some tart dark fruits. The flavor is a complex mix; roasted malts and chocolate, dark fruits with a slight tart character, dry, sweet Belgian character, mild spices and oak. Overall, this is worth trying, but I probably wouldn’t seek this out again.

I agree with other raters, many flavors (brown sugar, coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, and yeasties) come together in a united front. Strong Belgian style Stout professionally assembled by Sam Adams. I am constantly impressed by the diversity of offerings of Sam Adams. Barrel aged beers are a welcome addition to the line-up.

750ml bottle, shared by Jay. Clear but very dark color, minimal light brown head. Good lighter body, but a good creamy texture, soft lighter carbonation. A lot of complexities to this beer, but they all blend together impressively well, neither part over powers the other. Tart taste, but also some chocolate bitter sweet. Good roasty flavor. Light belgian style spice. Light bite to it, not quaffable but definitely tasty and interesting. Unique brew.

Bottle from Choice Beverages in McKinney. Pours black with a thin tan head. The aromas are pepper, chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, bourbon. The mouthfeel is dry, slightly fizzy and roasty with a heavy body. This was a very nice brew!

Very nice black in the glass. Wonderful aroma of coffee, spice and brown sugar. Tasty belgian yeast upfront with a trailing dark cocoa, spice, and liquer notes. Overall, deeeelishus!

A decent stout. Black color, The high alcohol content and oak comes out in the aroma, almost bourbon like. The taste is dominated by the oak but has a slight sweet licorice finish.

Sampled on 10/6/2012. This Imperial Stout pours an eclipse black color from a corked and caged 750ml bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasty malts and yeasty. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are choclate and coffee, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Lively carbonation. Yeasty and spicy. Hints of oak and chocolate. A nice combination of flavors, from the coffee bitterness to the yeasty esters and the oakiness. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours dark black with a tanned head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and hints of spice, also some coffee notes. Good beer, perhaps somewhat unbalanced, but sometimes, I like it sweet!

This beer is pretty good, with a nice appearance and a strong chocolate flavor but the sweetness is too much, almost to make you taste the sugar more than the alcohol. Okay.
