No bottling information.
Appearance: The body is pitch black with mahogany through the edges, the head is thick and fluffy on the pour but settles quickly to a tan coating and ring.
Aroma: Nowhere did the deScription mention any sourness, so I’m a bit taken back here. I’m picking up mostly a sour cherry, slightly medicinal aroma and hints of vinegar, nothing else. It smells good, but it’s not what I was expecting.
Taste: Again almost no stout notes, just a cherry medicinal slightly sour taste, maybe a hint of cocoa, and a slight funk on the finish. Where is the cocoa, coffee, oak, or spice in the deScription? I enjoy this to a degree, but I feel very misled.
Palate: Thick, slightly syrupy, with fizzy carbonation.
Overall: Like I said in the taste section this is incredibly misleading, nowhere does this indicate that this is going to be sour or heavy on the fruits. I was expecting something entirely different. This is okay, but I’m taking away points for Sam Adams not being more direct in it’s deScription.

Bottle from Julio’s. Rated from the bottom of the bottle, after it has warmed a bit. Pours jet black into a tulip with a frothy deep tan head. Deep fruity-roasty aromas. Flavor is complex with notes of chocolate and spice, vanilla-oak, and fruity yeast. Body is on the thin side for a stout. Subtle earthy sweetness. Earthy-sweet finish.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - close to opaque black with a thin head. Nose - coffee bean and earthiness. Taste - smoke, tar salty liquorice. Palate - medium bodied with a dry tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - definitely very gnarly. Interesting but a bit too challenging.

Pours a deep brown with a good sized light brown head that disappears quickly. Nice aroma of dark chocolate and fruity malts. Very smooth. Lots of fruitiness and a hint of chocolate flavor with some mild spices. Nothing too over powering yet very enjoyable taste. Similar to a good Belgian ale. Not too oily like some other stouts, just smooth and refreshing. Great to just sip and savor the subtle flavors.

Clear dark woody varnish brown, no real head - slim bubbled ring - wink of lacing. Nose is kola cubes, worn socks, dusty and softly spicy. Fizzy enough, greasy nutty malt and finishes very bright lemony good times. Finishes clean, oddly sweet lemon tea (as has a lot this evening...) and linger is clean bright spicy.

My boss bought this for me so at least I am not out that money. Everything I hate in Belgian Stouts with wierd medicinal plastic notes and inflected barrel bugs that clash with the yeast spiciness. Uninspired mouthfeel as well. A near drain pour with no coffee nor chocolate notes.

Sampled from the bottle at the Oklahoma Craft Beer Festival. Pours a clear dark amber brown with a yellowish brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a decent amount of roasted malts with some chocolate and dark grains. Flavor has notes of dark grains and roasted malts with a bit of dark fruit.
