3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
No bottling information.
Appearance: The body is pitch black with mahogany through the edges, the head is thick and fluffy on the pour but settles quickly to a tan coating and ring.
Aroma: Nowhere did the description mention any sourness, so I’m a bit taken back here. I’m picking up mostly a sour cherry, slightly medicinal aroma and hints of vinegar, nothing else. It smells good, but it’s not what I was expecting.
Taste: Again almost no stout notes, just a cherry medicinal slightly sour taste, maybe a hint of cocoa, and a slight funk on the finish. Where is the cocoa, coffee, oak, or spice in the description? I enjoy this to a degree, but I feel very misled.
Palate: Thick, slightly syrupy, with fizzy carbonation.
Overall: Like I said in the taste section this is incredibly misleading, nowhere does this indicate that this is going to be sour or heavy on the fruits. I was expecting something entirely different. This is okay, but I’m taking away points for Sam Adams not being more direct in it’s description.

3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted from bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black with tan head. Aroma is robust chocolate with some caramel and toffee. Taste doesn't live up to the expectation. Some sour funk. Weird combination of the Belgian yeast and spices with the chocolate and coffee. Not bad but not as good as most Sam Adams beers.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a dark black color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some chocolate notes and fruity ester from the yeast is pretty awesome. Taste is a nice mix of roasted malt with loads of black chocolate notes and some residual sugar with nice fruity ester notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Pretty solid take on the Belgian style stout IMHO.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
We think that this is a bad bottle as it has a sour edge to it. Pretty far from an imperial stout. Disappointed.
