3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Poured a dark black stout with a thick development of foam head which eventually retreated. Aroma is surprisingly faint with all traces of this being an impy stout have been erased from the barrel aging process, however, the oak barrels are the only noticeable smell I gain through my nose. The drink is harsh with a stinging taste of tart tannins while a semi-sweet sugary taste of malts and slight burn from the alcohol finish this beer on a wrong note. Maybe it has too many months on the shelf since this was released awhile ago and hasn’t had the most ideal bottle aging conditions but this is my current standing.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Churchkey’s 5th anniversary, courtesy of Bryan’s friend and Eric, thanks! Opaque dark brown color, bright tan head. Aroma of lightly funky coffee. Taste is cocoa, coffee, just enough of a touch of funk to be noticeable but not overwhelming. Light body. Nice one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Interesting belgian-ish style stout. Has elements of a stout and a Belgian...light roast, chocolate, dark fruit and spice. The x factor here is Sam Adams special yeast, causing juuuust a bit of twang in the aroma and flavor, and adding a unique level of tart apple like complexity."

Wow. This is a great beer. Poured from a bottle. Great color (dark brown) low head, sharp bourbon flavor, smooth, just the right ABV.

An interesting aroma of spice, Belgian yeast, and a hint of coffee. Dark brown color no head. A sweet taste of spice, banana and coffee with a watery feel and a tart spicy finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle into chalice. Dark brown color with soapy tan head. Smells of sweet dark fruit and a little spice and belgian yeast. Tastes like it smells, with some oak barrel character as well. A little bit of lingering bitterness. Feel is medium- thin and crisp. So basically, this beer is really just like a belgian quad. I don’t get any of the chocolate/ coffee stout notes that are listed in the description (edit: just tiny bit after it warms a little, but not much). I actually like it though, and I rated it objectively rather than going by the description. I think if they just called it a Dark Belgian Ale it would make more sense.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours black/dark brown with a taller khaki head that settles to a thick film/ring and leaves some soapy lace. Nose involves marshmallows soaked in bad wine with a dash of cocoa. Quite sweet, fairly tart, sort of bitter. Full body, soft, oily, finishing oaky and dry. I don’t think I like this very much.
