Thirteenth hour pours out of a very unique bottle Opaque black with hints of red. The head is a quickly disappearing mass of small bubbles mocha in color. Nose is sweet red fruit and chocolate liqueur. Thin body with some small lively bubbles. Taste is restrained red fruit with medium malt middle that has hints of bittersweet dark chocolate. I understand the rancor over this not being a typical stout. it is definitely in the belgian style. Still a good beer though.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage bottling. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, light coffee, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate oak barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, light coffee, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity tartness/yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, cherry, fig, chocolate, cocoa, toast, dark bread, molasses, pepper, oak, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, fruity yeast, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian strong dark ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/roasted malt, and light-moderate oak barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Beautiful reddish brown/mahogany. Small wispy tan head. Medium body. Pretty carbonated. Plenty of fruitiness along with the chocolate coffee and oak which are definitely lesser. Hint of sour. The definite defining character is the Belgian/yeast/fruitiness. Not a lot of roasty or dark malty.

Aroma is very boozy and spicy. Pours from bottle with a massive head. Slightly off white and black. Taste is sweet with a Belgian spice finish. Not much roasted flavor. def too sweet. No hops. Sparkling carb and kind of thin.

This beer is a thick, chewy brew. The aromas are rich and honestly too much to unpack with many malts and spices. The taste is more quantifiable, displaying dark chocolate, Italian roast coffee, molasses, and a hint of figs or prunes. The palate is thick and heavy making for a beer to be nursed slowly, especially with a long finish. Their is a mild sourness, which seems to be a staple characteristic of the ’barrel collection’ to varying degrees. Overall, an interesting experience but not something I will drink regularly, and I feel the brewer packed too many elements into the brew.

750ml, from 3 bottle box set, poured into tulip glass

Aroma: chocolate, citrus, sour, woody,

Appearance: black, tan head

Taste: medium sour, light bitter

Palate: Medium to full body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish

Overall: I was expecting something with more roasted and chocolate malts combined with various Belgian spices (coriander, etc.). Stout tastes sour, like sour milk with subtle hints of chocolate, but spices are even more subtle. I had high exceptions of this after really enjoying the New World Tripel, but this isn’t bad, just not what I expected.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle worth thin bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma is slight sour acetic over chocolate and roast. Taste is slightly sour chocolate milk, sweet and lactic, Belgian yeast and spicy esters over take as it warms the back of your tongue.

100th rating! Pours a dark copper from the bottle. Aroma is of dark chocolate, cherry, and some slight citrusiness. Flavor is chocolate and...A1 sauce I swear! A little vinegary, a fair amount of sweetness. I feel like this was trying to choose between a Belgian ale and an imperial stout and wasn’t able too. Good beer.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2015 750 ml shared with dad that he bought at the brewery A: red fruits, cherries/vinous, chocolate, roasted notes, spices. App: black beige head. T/p: med body with moderate long acidic finish. Moderate too high carbonation. O: great. A bit surprised by this sourness on that one. An interesting sip you can’t feel the 9% at all
