This corked and caged bottled brew from a rating party poured a head of all foam finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-opaque dark ruby red brown colored body. The aroma was musty and malt hop. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of dark malt and hops. An OK brew just nothing special.

Black in glass with only a touch of brown at the edges in bright light, but a thin layer is a deep reddish brown. The head is well proportioned, creamy dark tan in color, and has excellent retention with decent lacing. Aroma: complex, fruity and spicy with some sweet malt evident too. Lots of raisins. The rich and complex flavor reflects some toasted malts with coffee and a variety of spices. Hints of dark fruits and chocolate. Full body with ample soft carbonation. Near perfect! O: This cross-over ale serves as an excellent American version of a Belgian dark strong ale. Good even by that high standard although much of the spiciness comes from spices rather than the yeast.

Dark fruit and chocolate dominate aroma and flavor, lacking roasted character. Candi sugar sweetness .Slight sour pucker bite. Light brown head, low retention. Very slight clarity which brings a deep amber hue to the very dark brown color. Medium body.

On tap at the 1st annual Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting 2013, this pours black with a huge tan head. The nose has some esters and active yeast fungi, very attractive. The flavors have dark fruits, esters, raisins, sours and finishes with a sour cherry. The body is medium and the mouthfeel somewhat active. Drinks ok, but an interesting take on the Impy Stout genre by introducing the Belgian yeast cultures. Almost more of a sour/wild, as I either miss out on the roasted notes, or the yeast is just too consuming for the marriage.

Bottle courtesy of Mom. Thanks Mom! Pours very dark, with tan head. Aroma of a Belgian, mixed with Stout. Interesting blend, but not my favorite. Notes of dark fruit, coffee, and chocolate.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4035) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 26, 2013
Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large creamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tart and sour cherries and plum with touches of anise and perfume. The flavor was tart and sour cherry, wood, bread, faint toasty malts and hints of cocoa and anise. Long finish of tart and sour cherries, wood and bread. Moderately full bodied. Interesting.

Black pour, big foamy brown head. Aroma of sour, dark fruit, alcohol. Flavor is very cherry, chocolate, Very tasty! Scent’s a bit more exciting than the flavor.

Poured into a snifter. 3.5 A: Black or nearly so color. Two and a half fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is initially poor with the last half finger sticking around a good while. A short ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Starts out with something like a ginger bread cookie - Christmas spices, brown sugar, caramel, sugar, and a bread/dough mix. Roast is next followed by sugar plums, dates, currants, and dark karo syrup. Booze is very well hidden. It’s definitely closer to a BSDA than a stout. It’s pretty much an American BSDA. Pretty good whatever it is. 3.5 T: Like the nose, but a little less depth of flavor. Spices, caramel, brown sugar, and bread. Dark sweet fruits - raisin, candied plums, currants, and sticky dates. Again booze is well hidden. Not bad. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a light spritziness. Reasonably creamy. Good here. 3.5 D: Overall good effort. It was a little pricey though, so I doubt I’d buy it again. No faults and solid all around. Serving type: bottle 01-01-2013 02:45:53

Holy infected garbage, bros. This one poured very light and thin for a impy stout. It had a sour twang to it as well, leading me to believe it was infected. Pounded the entire 750ml in 1 minute 33 seconds. Hers the pics:

Nice funky and tart sort of stout with citrus, oak, spice, and cocoa, not a bad beer but too played up by Sam Adams.
