COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This was labeled Sample A for Sam Adamsí 2010 Beer Loverís Choice Longshot competition.
Sample A, a Belgian-style IPA, is an incredibly complex beer that begins with the fruity, sweet, slightly tart and spicy characteristics of Belgian ale yeast. The blend of malts, including a traditional slow-roasted Czech variety, adds a crisp, slightly roasty note. This is complemented by a combination of German and American hops, which add complex notes of eucalyptus, pine and citrus. The beer finishes with the distinct hop bitterness expected from an IPA, immediately demanding a second sip.

Not bad of a take for a Belgian, though more of a Belgian pale than an IPA. Warm gold color, good head. Slight yeasty fruitiness.

Bottle. Not a huge fan of the Belgium IPA style in general. Muddled Peary yeast. Melon and tangerines. Doughy caramel. Okay.

Pours clear and dark amber - almost like a pale red with a thin head. Aroma is pretty mild. Taste is mild bitter.

Sample "A" bottle shared at Flossmoor pre-DLD Black party: Not many notes... Faded and oxidized with some Belgian yeast influenences, roasty and bready malts, some herbal notes, slighty fruity and twangy, soft carbonation, way past itís prime.

Bottle at Homebrew club meeting. Side by side with the Longshot winner, this is a much better beer. Pours a clear orangey copper with persistent and sticky white head. Nose is citrus with light pepper and clove notes. Nice hop character. On taste, the hops shine and work well with this yeast. Full and round, minimal astringency. Very solid Belgian IPA.

12oz Bottle Thanks to JohnGalt1. Pours out golden topped with a white head. Aroma was of pine, citrus, clove, pepper, and some belg yeast. Taste was nice a little IPA/Belg mix good hop caricature along with a good light belg. Much better than I was expecting it to be.

Pours amber with a frothy, white head. Smells metallic, floral, perfumy, light citrus. Tastes dry and floral with a subtle, peppery bitterness on the finish.

Deep amber pour. The nose is nice and spicy. Lots of bright and spicy/fruity hops over a fairly fruity and spicy yeastiness. Citrus and tropical fruity hoppiness over a bright lingering bitterness. Lightly peppery but decent.

This was far better than I expected it to be. Interesting play by the belgian hop profile balanced nicely with a lightly toasted malt aroma. Enjoyed
