KajII (50), Macon, North Carolina, USA Nov 9, 2009 Bottle. Poured black in color with a small light brown head that dissapated in seconds with fair lacing. The aroma was very light with a hint of roasted coffee malts and a light doughy yeast scent. It tasted of burnt coffee slightly sweet with a bitter finish that stayed with you for a while. Mouthfeel was medium to full bodied with an oily texture but quite creamy. Overall qiute a nice tasting brew. halfonit (423), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Nov 5, 2009 Pure black color with hardly any head. Aroma is of sweeter malts, chocolate, and slight coffee. Taste is of malts, dark chocolate, smoke, and spices. Has a nice little bite in the end. I likes. I likes. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2009 Bottle pours black with thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate malt and yeast. Opulent mouthfeel. Flavor is roast malt, chocolate, dark caramel, yeast, and finishes dry. Not too bad. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Oct 25, 2009 12 oz bottle from Party Liquors (Steger, IL). Pours a dark blackish red, edges noticeably ruby, a decent light brown head that dies to a small layer, ok lacing. Aromas are a creamy chocolate and slight lactose, a decent roast smoothed over by sweeter chocolate, caramel, and nicer roasty malt and coffee further in. Initial is upper side of light body, with good roasty and coffee malts, a bit dry, light bitterness. Chocolate and sweetness come in lightly, no overbearing sweetness, instead smoothed over and fairly sessionable. Light caramel, roast, pretty well balanced, sweet and roast mingle but stay far enough away to not be a sweet or thicker brew. Very solid, drinkable, and tasty dark lager. Snot19kilo (81), Oakwood, Illinois, USA Oct 25, 2009 pours black with a nice light brown head. Aroma is dark fruits and chocolate malts. Flavor is malty chocolate, caramel and some cream and fruit. It’s a very clean beer, both in looks and feel. A good Lager. Bitzybrew (28), New York, New York, USA Oct 24, 2009 One of my favorite beers from Samuel Adams. Nice chocolate and roasted malt combo. Very sessionable. vmilaxer29 (144), Virginia, USA Oct 18, 2009 Pours dark with white head, soft aroma of caramel and chocolate, finishes clean. Not one of Sam Adams best brews but definitily worth a try. williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Oct 17, 2009 Deep dark bown; Coca-Cola. Large head with lots of lace; ice cream float head.
Smell is a toasted malt but also with a sweet brown ale. Has some weak adjuncty lager. Malt slightly burnt. Minor coffee aroma.
Tastes like a light, brown ale. Has the light crispness of a lager with some extra sugary sweetness. Hint of brown sugar. White wine? Nice, dark but a little sweet.
Thick but watery. Has a bit of staying power. Enjoyable though not incredible. Highly drinkable.
