This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Pours brownish-red. Malty aroma with caramel notes. Flavor of chocolate and toffee. Nice balance. This beer breaks away from the "averageness" of the other beers from this brewer, and I like it quite a bit.

Dark Brown Coloring with a Cola Bubbly Head. Burnt Caramel and Chocolate Aroma. Dry Roasted Caramel Taste...Creamy Mouthfeel. Malt and Chocolate Hints. Sweet, Dry Roasts and Chocolate Aftertaste. A Surprisingly Enjoyable Schwarz from Sam’s.

Pours a deep brown with ruby accents. Has about a 1/2 inch of head that seems to linger. Aroma is chocolate and caramel. The flavor was mostly chocolate. It was pretty sweet in taste. The palate was smooth but not thick like a porter or stout. It was more watery as a schwarzbier should be. A good beer for this brewer. I enjoyed it.

This beer tastes like a sweet stout. It has a nice mouthfeel with a clean finish. It tastes like Xingu.

Pours a deep reddish brown hue with a two-finger head that stays remarkably well. Aroma consists of sweet chocolate, with hints of caramel and smoke. Flavor follows the nose, and is a little sweeter than I am accustomed to, but I rather enjoyed it. This beer is well-carbonated, and pleasantly coats the mouth. Overall, this was a good specimen from Boston Beer.

Surprisingly good as an overall package. I like my schwarzes a little less sweet (that’s my problem with Xingu) and more bitter and roasty and this fits the bill. Incredible head retention; a huge, billowy, pockmarked ecru head rises easily. The palate aviods some watery carbordiness that I sometimes find. Not refined (too grainy/husky for that) but still a fine example and a easy quaffing beer for a buck a six under what I usually buy. There is more of this in my future.

bottle-I have actually been wanting to sample this one for quite some time now. This could be the best beer on their lineup! pours a deep amber huge with a sudsy beige head. Chocolate, roasty aroma with notes of mocha, smoke and slightly ashy. flavors are mostly roast and chocolate with lots of burnt notes as well. very nice for SA standards. Long roasty finish with lingering mocha notes. some hops in there in the finish-spicy. I dig this one!

Poured a dark color with a medium off white head. Aroma was of toasted malts and a bit of hops. Flavor followed suit with a toasty character and some toffee sweetness and a bit of bittering hops. Medium to thin mouthfeel with good carbonation and little aftertaste.

Pours slightly translucent black with a tan head that laces well. Nose is faint allspice and hops. Flavor is roasted malt with a nice hops balance towards the end, more spice, mildly bitter. Fairly dry, very little aftertaste.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2005 Pours with a nice dark color and typical SA large thick white head that hangs in there and leaves a nice lace. Roasted nutty choclate aroma and simialr tastes with a slight hoppiness to the finish. Got this as part of a variety 12 pack from Sams Club at only $10.95. Well worth it.
