COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Dark red-brown with a medium-sized light brown head that is mostly diminishing. Chocolate malts most prevalent in the aroma, with a touch of orange peel and coffee grounds. Brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, and roasted pecans in the flavor. Finish has some sour grain flavors (wet wheat). Moderately carbonated, giving a nice tingle as you swallow. A tad thin on the palate, but this is a pretty tasty brew.

Bottle (HWC): Black in color (actually ruby when held up to bright light) with a small mocha head. Aroma is nutty with a little cocoa. Flavor is malty with a little smoke and a light bitterness. Smooth, but thin palate. Kinda tasty.

First schwarzbier. Moderately dark, little head, aroma. Roasty, with coffee, and nutty. Somewhat thin, but isn’t that to style? Surprisingly sitcky. Damn good Sam Adams, and a tasty style.

Deep rich brown (not black) hue with a small but lasting head and good lace. The aroma has notes of dusty yeast esters, carmelized smoky malts, walnut, coffee and light lactic sourness. The taste is malty, lightly smoky and nutty with a hint of fruity background. Not a lot of depth but flavorful enough. As far as Sam Adams brews go, this is above average and worthy of a taste.

bottle 3/16/05. Pours a dark black color and looks like coca-cola when first poured. Thin tan head and very nice lacing. Smoky kind of taste, slightly bitter. Very malty , hops are very faint if at all. Strong aftertaste that satays with you for a couple of seconds. Good all around brew by Sam Adams.
