This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Ummm, black color... not much head, aroma is sweet with cocoa. Flavor starts out quite sweet, mouthfeel becomes noticibly dry, some chocolate, smoke and bitterness comes on to finish. Strange beer, not bad though - I think it would make a good barbeque sauce.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2008 Not bad for Sam Adams. Reddish brown, some lacing and retention. Chocolate, caramel, moderate to low hops, light coffee and roast. Medium to light body. Not a schwarz.

Very enjoyable beer. Pours a very dark almost black body. Looks almost like a Guinness draught with a thick creamy, light tan head that lasted forever with good lacing. Smokey, nicely roasted coffee/chocolate aroma. A unique, tasty flavor. Roasted malts. Smooth, but a slightly thin finish. Good beer.

Another new offering from Sam Adams, Brewmaster’s collection. Black Lager lived up to its name in the initial pour with a this head. Chocolate malts dominate the bock-like flavor. I agree the finish tastes a bit watered down. Sam Adams is a crossover beer for many of my macro friends. I predict I’ll be finding Black lager in their fridges soon.

An intersting brew as chocolate comes through more than I thought it would. Nifty little head that never went away and left some decent lacing. Would like ot try again.

Poured black with a light brown head. Has a roasted chocolate coffee aroma. Hops up front followed by light chocolate malts and a slightly bitter coffee/caramel finish. Finish is quite dry and the body is a little watery. Flavors are faint leaving more to be desired.

nice roasted malt/smoky aroma and slight chocolatey flavor. Minimal lacing, atop the deep cherry color.

Very dark color. Pours a thin head but it lasts and holds plenty of lacing. Aroma is surprisingly "lager-like" in the sense of being similar to a traditional light-colored American lager, with extra milk chocolate undertones. Flavor is dominated by chocolate-malt and hops, and caramel shows through in the finish. The body of this beer is quite smooth, perhaps because it’s fully carbonated like a light lager; many other Schwarzbiers will diminish the carbonation in their process. Overall this is a very well-balanced beer so "micro" in nature it’s easy to forget it’s Boston Brewing.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2005 Beautiful black with tan head. Mild aroma faintly smelling of coffee. Caramal in the palate, very smooth and rich with a little hops + roasted malt. Not quite flavorful enough but a nice beer. #2 - definitely taste the chocolate malt plus is very (overly) sweet.
