This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Black with some red tones. No head. Looks thin. Aroma is malt and licorice. Low on taste. Low bitterness. Medium body.

Aroma af karamel. Ristet malt, karamel. Klar, mørkerød. Medium fylde, fint i forhold til smag. Cremet carb og skum. En smule bitterhed og syre mod slutningen.

This brew is appealing to the eye and to the taste buds. She has an attractive shade of black and a feel that’s appropriately crisp and smooth for a lager. Flavor is extraordinarily complex. First, there’s a fresh, bitter hop character that’s delicious by itself. But then, there’s robust toasted malt and dark chocolate. The finish is fairly bitter, but with some subtle caramel. Another great dark beer from Samuel Adams.

Really nice lager. It surprised me, beautiful color, good head and nice roasty flavor. I will drink it more often

Better than other black lagers that I’ve had..roasted malts and chocolate definitely come through.

Best by Jan, 2012 A: Black, but able to get light through - resulting in dark drown tones. Central cap of off-white foam is also concentric on the edge. S: Dry malts, slightest hint of smoke and wood. Maybe even a little bit of artificial grape. T: Dry flavor, wet feeling. Weird dicotomy of experience here. There are some umami tones in this beer. A little bit of burnt pretzel. M: Light and low carb - very interesting. Semi dry finish. O: Not sure how I feel about this beer. A little empty for me. Serving type: bottle 11-28-2011

Very dark brown color without much head. Deep malty flavors with hints of caramel. One of Sam Adams’ most underrated beers.

10/5/2011. 12 oz. bottle from a mixed case. Dark brown color with a tan head. Roasted malt aromas with caramel and chocolate. Caramel flavors with spice and dark fruit. Light hoppy finish. Very good!

Bottle to pint. Looks good for the style; cola with thin light beige head that quickly dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes of dark malt and biscuit with a bit of roast and an average mouthfeel. Alright.
