Looks like a stout...doesn’t taste like it. Pours black with a thick tan head. All roasted malt on the nose. Has a funky aftertaste that lingers a long while. That aftertaste is like wort...brutal.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black coloured beer with a light tan fast fading head. Noses of roasted malts, burnt toffee, coffee and bitter chocolate with some spicyness to it. Rather watery texture with a light bitter taste of burnt toffee/roasted malts. Develops light salty traces with a notch of sweetness. Not too complex but nicely drinkable. The finish is lasting for a short while.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
355ml bottle, poured into a lager glass. Appearance is clear brownish black with a small tan head with good retention. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Flavour of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, dark muscovado and a hint of caramel and charcuteries. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium bodied, smooth texture, soft carbonation. A great beer for the style, has relatively full body and the taste is well balanced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very impressive beige head--a solid three fingers thick--leaves Pollock inspired lacing on the glass side. Light barely penetrates through the deep brown (no reddish hue) liquor. Appears to be clear.
Strong dark chocolate notes, a touch of burnt toast, and toasted marshmallow. Similar smells to a well-made porter.
Crisp like a lager should be. The beginning of the taste is surprisingly neutral--malt flavors but not as obvious as the smell might indicate. The real treat comes from the swallow--strong caramel and dark chocolate notes with a wonderful blend of hop spiciness. The carbonation also shows up here. The aftertaste is surprisingly dry. In fact, the entire tasting devoid of any significant sweetness.
A short description would be a "lagered porter", meaning it doesn’t have the roundness of typical fare. Working from memory, this is a more flavorful schwarzbier than others I’ve had. Worthy of a six-pack.
