4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I agree with BuckeyeNation and have modified some of his comments and added my own in this review.
Dark walnut brown with red highlights. The golden beige crown is two fingers to start but did not last long. Fair lacing.
The aroma is more dark malty than anticipated and is huskily, muskily, earthily hoppy. Given what I know about schwarzbiers (not much), the nose is right on.
Black Lager is pretty tasty. It isnít a wow! kind of beer, but itís unquestionably well-brewed. Thereís more flavor than expected and more roasted malt as well. This is the second time Iíve tried this beer. The first time being last autumn. I will say that either my palate has improved or this beer has. I like it so much more than then. A good amount of black/chocolate maltiness. The hops more than hold their own and are as important in the grand scheme of things as the malt.
The flavor profile consists of cocoa, dark caramel and, surprisingly, black coffee. Those flavors are complementary to each other (as well as to the herbal, earthy, slighty spicy hops) and are soft and powdery in character as opposed to charred. The mouthfeel is on the light side of medium, which it maintains all the way to and through the finish.
This may be the best offering from Boston Beer Company. Black Lager is very good and was a nice surprise. Good stuff.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Best by Jan, 2012
A: Black, but able to get light through - resulting in dark drown tones. Central cap of off-white foam is also concentric on the edge.
S: Dry malts, slightest hint of smoke and wood. Maybe even a little bit of artificial grape.
T: Dry flavor, wet feeling. Weird dicotomy of experience here. There are some umami tones in this beer. A little bit of burnt pretzel.
M: Light and low carb - very interesting. Semi dry finish.
O: Not sure how I feel about this beer. A little empty for me.

Very dark brown color without much head. Deep malty flavors with hints of caramel. One of Sam Adamsí most underrated beers.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle to pint. Looks good for the style; cola with thin light beige head that quickly dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes of dark malt and biscuit with a bit of roast and an average mouthfeel. Alright.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A new style for me that I will drink more of. Pour is black with a large tan head. Aroma is lite and pleasant with malt and a little coffee. Itís like a stout made for summer all the flavors in a great stout but litter.

Bottle. Black. Good roasted, chocolate, nose with coffee in it. Thinnish body, but quite flavourful. Soft roasted malts, some chocolate. Overall a nice schwarz. Drinkable, nice. Has some bulkyness to it though.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance- Dark brown with a slight red tint. Nice tan head light lacing
Aroma- Clean roasted malty smell
T/P- dark dry roast flavor, slightly over carbonated. Somewhat heavy on the back end
Overall- Not bad, I would not turn it down if offered to me, and may buy again in a variety pack. I would not go out and search for a six pack of it.

1.8 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Aroma smells like cold coffee. Poured black. Taste is watery with a little roasted flavor in there. Not really that great.
